About this deal

Give it a goo while to dry – you can’t just rush in. I left my timber to dry for nearly a week as it had been thoroughly soaked and was damp for a fair while in places the sun doesn’t reach much. Obviously if you’re directly exposed to sunlight your timber will be ready to go much faster. I do warn though, don’t get too close or you risk ripping the grain and making it furry! Don’t panic, it’s a bit lively looking for the first week or two and then it’ll settle down to the colour you can see above 🙂 It’s designed to penetrate deep into the wood to replace the natural oils lost over time through weathering, and to offer deep-seated protection against splitting and drying, while the tinted oil brings out the colour in greyed wood for a fresh look. the type of wood being applied to: Hard woods (such as cedar) will give a lighter shade with the same oil than a soft wood (such as pine). The more the oil can saturate the wood grain, the darker the appearance of the finish.

It is vital when using stripper or bleacher to neutralise the wood thoroughly before applying any finishing products. We recommend Wax & Polish Remover to neutralise stripper and bleacher. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours before commencing the wax, oil or varnish process. When using water-based varnishes wood bleacher must be rinsed thoroughly to remove all residues.

An hour after the second coating has gone on, test out a patch by scrubbing it thoroughly with a scrubbing brush – make sure that the stain has been removed completely. One thing you’ll notice is the busier areas will fade first, sorry for pointing out the obvious but it was more in relation to the manufacturer comments with regards to UV filters – you have no worry at all about this product failing through sunlight, the wear and tear is the only issue with oils. Wood has naturally occurring oils which seep out – as will this oil, or any other you choose from the review for that matter. Pros: Our courier will return the parcel to their depot and try to deliver it on the next available working day. Hardwoods: Unless the hardwood is very absorbent, best results are achieved by wiping on the oil in very thin coats with a cloth. It is essential that any oil that has not been absorbed into the timber is wiped off thoroughly with a clean lint-free cloth. For new hardwoods, it is recommended to leave the wood exposed for up to 12 months before applying any finish. This allows the grain in the wood to open and breathe and aids penetration and adhesion of the finish.

The age of the wood. Newer wood will have a higher moisture content and be tighter grained, allowing less oil to be absorbed than older wood which will look darker with the same oil. We recommend using the clear version, as it delivers a beautifully natural finish. The same can't quite be said about the teak colour, as it's a little orange.Drying time is pretty sensible. Touch dry won’t take long at all if your timber was bone dry, but give it 24 hours after the last coat before you walk on it or put anything heavy down. It seems to darken a little for the first few days but brightens up as it fully cures. Pros: Once you’re finished, leave the oil to dry out completely for around 24 hours, then repeat the process as necessary (two or three coats are generally required for the best results).
