About this deal

Regardless of the file system used on the indexed drives and folders, Everything searches its index for file names matching a user search expression, which may be a fragment of the target file name or a regular expression, [7] displaying intermediate and immediate results as the search term is entered. I planned to update the first post with this info once it was approved, but I still haven't time to write it appropriately.

Note: Press Ctrl + Break to abort the current index. (might be useful for manually setting which volumes to index) Code: Select all [{"name":"Width","include_only_files":"*.jpg","fast_sort":1},{"name":"Length","include_only_folders":"c:\\Media","include_only_files":"*.mp4"}] To do that, edit C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything-1.5a.ini and add the following like to the end of the file: alpha_instance=0 I left this for last, as it is the most complicated answer. I didn't notice this previously, but at the same time this is not related to the application I wrote, it should be related to how dopus handles collections internally. fixed database corruption when renaming a folder when folder size indexing is enabled or when there is a folder exclude.SearchEverythingCoreCLI seems to leave temp files after it's done running, while I made sure to cleanup and temp files created by EverythingDopus Doesn't need admin permission to run with the default setup, while SearchEverythingCoreCLI default setup requests admin permissions Overall, Everything is an excellent program to find and organise files and folders on your PC. With a simple interface, it’s easy to use and doesn’t affect your computer’s performance. The portable version makes it easier to install Everything on any device. Without a doubt, Everything is a feature-rich, comprehensive utility tool. A simple yet powerful tool! network share \\server\share and only wish to rescan \\server\share\subfolder use -rescan \\server\share\subfolder I also warned to make this easy to setup and use for new users of both Directory Opus and Everything - so I added utilities to ease the learning curve.

Fixed database corruption when renaming a folder when folder size indexing is enabled or when there is a folder exclude. fixed an issue with the service being stopped and the index as admin process being stopped when exiting Everything. I did try the search string a - that way I'd get a silly amount of hits. In total this matches 1051025 objects on my system (about 60k directories, the rest are files)

File indexing works very fast. With Windows freshly installed, with about 120,000 files, it takes one second to create the database. With one million files, indexing takes about one minute. All this is done while consuming very few resources, as the program uses only a few tens of MB of RAM memory. EverythingDopus is a bridge between both software, allowing the search results of Everything to be displayed as a collection inside Directory Opus.

I suspect the high memory usage is due to watermark system, but it's probably better to ask @Leo or @Jon for help here figuring out what's going on

Older versions

improved rendering performance when updating the UI due to a large amount of changes to the file system.

No updates of Everything were issued from November 2009 to January 2013. [14] Since then the program has received many updates. [14] [1] Similar alternatives [ edit ] added warning when attempting to add an NTFS volume as a folder index when it is already indexed as an NTFS index. Everything has 2 Everything.ini files. One with system-level settings, one with user-level settings. The specified ini file will override any existing settings and a new Everything.ini is saved to disk. Because Everything requires access to the NTFS change journal, it must run with administrator privileges, either in a privileged user account or as a Windows service. As a Windows service it can expose search functionality to accounts without administrator privileges. [11] However, Everything does not filter search results by client privileges before displaying them, so that every user can see every file on a volume. Furthermore opening the file or running an executable will launch the file with its own credentials rather than with the user's own credentials. [12] Although there may be a way to prevent privilege escalation when opening a file, [13] there is no obvious remedy to prevent one user from listing the private files in another user's account.
