About this deal

It's for certain a spy thriller that will keep you spellbound from the very start until right to the end. THE STORY: In the autumn of 1945, a Japanese submarine surfaces off the coast of England, unloads a lethal cargo, then blows itself to pieces. So begins a cat and mouse chase with Bormanns henchmen not far behind and at times in front of Wilde and getting the girl out of Germany will only be half of the problems Tom will encounter.

Rory Clements Tom Wilde Series 5 Books Collection Set (Corpus, Nucleus, Nemesis, Hitler's Secret, A Prince and a Spy): I must admit that I have been a fan of this series from the first book and whilst this is the fourth in the series it can easily be read as a stand-alone, it is a series that goes from strength to strength. Just when Tom believes he’s achieved his mission troubles – and further danger – await closer to home, sometimes from the most unlikely of sources. Plus he’s faced with a moral dilemma made more difficult by his own position as a new father. Is, as the saying goes, all’s fair in love and war? A decent spy thriller centred on a plot concerning the abdication of King Edward VIII who proposed to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee. Edward and Wallis were admirers of Hitler and this story revolves around a Nazi plot to ensure Edward continues as king. As the bodies mount, a few red herrings in the form of an alleged Communist uprising in Britain and murders blamed on Commie assassins. Meanwhile people in Britain's high places move to cement their power and prevent the abdication plan engineered by British Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin. The book is to some degree split into two parts, however, the plotting and pace of the story is spot on.

What To Read Next

Unfortunately, it looks as though the queen is not totally opposed to the advances of the ambitious earl. In fact, the Queen seems to be fairly flattered by his overtures and attempts to win her over. This is also surprising because his mother is Lettice Knollys. Gorgeous and dangerous at the same time, Lettice presides over her own court. Maybe it’s a strange court of people, but they should not be taken lightly. Corpus is also a crime thriller though, albeit in an era that I wouldn’t be used to reading about. I found it to be quite engaging as it flowed quite well. It was relevant to the time period and political events that were happening at the time too.

This suspenseful engaging spy thriller is the 4th volume of the tremendous "Tom Wilde" series from the great author, Rory Clements. From the beginning this had the feel that you get from an accomplished author. The setting is England just prior to the second World War and I soon appreciated the amount of time that must have gone into discovering details about both the major and minor politicians and the detaile of that period in our history. The only problem is that Hitlers right hand man Martin Bormann is equally determined that that doesn’t happen. I felt that Clements did well in portraying postwar Britain including the collective sense of loss and the need to rebuild a shattered economy. Such details of everyday life enrich the narrative beyond the drama of its main plot. The man behind the hunt and search for Klara on the Nazis side is the insalubrious dangerous, Martin Bormann, the probable murderer in 1931 of Geli in an attempt to discover more about the mystery behind that child, when all of a sudden that same mystery has now somehow turned up, and so he's determined to do everything he can to keep it covered up from Adolf Hitler, if he wants to stay secure and alive himself.

Word Phenol - heard the word twice - connection. It was used to kills the crippled and blind authorised by doctors. To my mind, it’s always cause for celebration when a new book by Rory Clements is published, especially when it’s an addition to his terrific spy thriller series set in World War 2 and featuring Cambridge history professor, Tom Wilde. Nemesis (2019) – 1939 (August). As war looms, Cambridge professor Tom Wilde is enjoying a last holiday in France before the conflagration. But when a stranger informs him that a former student named Marcus Marfield is incarcerated in a French internment camp Wilde feels compelled to secure his release and return to England. Marfield, a brilliant chorister and history undergraduate had gone off to join the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War and was feared dead. But not everyone welcomes him home. As an international intrigue unwinds, the destiny of Europe and the world lies in the blood-stained hands of ruthless plotters. Only Wilde can destroy the conspiracy – but he finds himself in grave personal danger.
