About this deal

R&D meetings on the 3rd (and sometimes 4th) Tuesdays of each month, presenting the research or audit projects that you have in progress.

Every attempt will be made to facilitate trainees on shift to unit teaching sessions. If you wish to attend an ICU teaching session when you are on shift, please ask the consultant on call to assist you with this. The ICU training programme runs across all units: P/NICU, CICU and CATS. It runs throughout the week with particular emphasis on Wednesday to coincide with the study leave days. Attendance at teaching sessions on these days is MANDATORY. A register will be taken and record of attendance sent to your educational supervisor. The accreditation ranks the efforts of employers to make their business more cycle friendly. The gold award for GOSH recognises the hospital’s work to foster a culture of sustainable travel among its 5000 employees. Dr Finella Craig, a Consultant in the Palliative Care team, has recently returned to cycling and rides an average 120 miles per month to deliver palliative care to her patients. The modular training programme is self directed. They are peer reviewed and are updated regularly. If you would like to participate in updating a module please discuss this with your educational supervisor.Harriet completed a degree in Psychology and Biology, then gained experience in a variety of roles in the private sector, working in PR, events, and office manager roles within the creative industries. After a couple of years in customer service, she decided to join the NHS due to her interest in the sciences and a desire to work somewhere that made a greater impact on people’s lives. Harriet joined GOSH from another Trust over 6 years ago and has been part of the GOSH Learning Academy (GLA) since before its inception, working in the Nursing & Non-medical Education team, before joining the Digital Learning team in March 2023. She was a key member in setting up the GOSH Scholarship Awards, which helps to fund Continuing professional development (CPD) for all GOSH staff and is passionate about supporting education and career progression for those in non-clinical roles. What excites Harriet about digital learning is how digital technology can bring newer, more exciting ways to learn to help make education accessible to all. One of the best features about GOSH Den is our ability to interact with others. By using the discussion boards, messaging and classroom functions, we can learn from each other and feel like one community. Mark Hayden, Paediatric Cardiac Intensivist at GOSH is passionate about the benefits of making the hospital more cycle friendly. He said: These sessions only succeed with FULL trainee participation. You may be asked to present at one of the following: Study leave has been built into the full shift rotas on ICU. The rotas have been devised so that the majority of study leave days fall on a Wednesday. We are not caring for children if we do not protect the environment and try to minimise the detrimental impacts that climate change will have on children’s health around the world. The physical and mental wellbeing benefits which spring from cycling are well known, but we need to see marked improvements in the local air quality which is a significant public health risk.” Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust has become the first hospital in the UK to be awarded gold by Cycling UK’s Cycle Friendly Employer Accreditation Scheme. There is a well developed ICU modular training programme which is based on the ICTPICM (Intercollegiate Committee for Training in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine) syllabus and is entirely comparable with the Australian and North American syllabi making it useful for overseas trainees also.

I absolutely love the colour of this one and it is a real go-to when I don’t know what else to wear. It goes with my clothes and doesn’t clash with my silver and white gold jewellery. The hospital is also actively engaging with Transport for London and Camden Council to seek better and safer cycling routes. Improved air quality around the hospital will also benefit patients and families.I have been able to cycle to all my home visits and have even been joined by my registrar on a bike,” said Dr Craig.

Ivanina is interested in how technology can facilitate teaching and make it more engaging and impactful. She is also passionate about supporting educators at GOSH to utilise the Digital Learning Network (DEN) and enhance their blended and online teaching practices. This has been especially important during the pandemic, with many employees choosing to cycle rather than take public transport. Staff have collectively ridden more than 30,000 miles in 2020 – longer than it would take to ride around the world. Case-Based discussions where you present a case of your choice that we managed on ICU and discuss the evidence base for management. This is assessed according to the RCPCH proforma by 2 of the ICU consultants and a copy is kept in your file. Here are some of the team's favourite features of GOSH DEN: Starting in this role a year ago, I had two key aims: to recruit a highly skilled digital learning team and to launch a contemporary learning environment that offers inclusive and accessible education to all. I am over the moon to have achieved both of those aims, and I can't wait for the Trust (and beyond) to access The Den. Amy Leanord, Head of Education for Digital Learning Application was ok. It took three coats as it is quite thin but the beauty of this is that it is so fast to dry that the whole manicure was done and dusted in about fifteen minutes. Practically no brush strokes either – happy days. ICU Mortality and Morbidity Meetings (M&M). Paula Smith (Medical PA, ext 8213) will tell you the cases for the M&M meetings and get the notes for you. You should meet your educational supervisor for the particular area (e.g. CICU, CATS, P/NICU) in the first one to two weeks of the attachment to identify appropriate educational goals and plan. You should then meet at three months or midpoint for appraisal of objectives, and then at six months or in the last month of your post to complete the appraisal process and review training. The meetings will be recorded and once agreed will be stored on a central database which will be accessible to all supervisors in your time on ICU. This will allow for continuity of educational appraisal between units while you are with us.
