About this deal

Either in store or from the comfort of your own home. We appreciate life is busy, so why not let us make it a little easier for you. A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. Equal in performance to standalone headphone amplifiers, beyond the price- class of this complete system, the design offers high-speed output signal transition thanks to a high slew rate. The result is a dynamic, detailed and engaging performance with all manner of headphone types. Naim is another big-name British hi-fi brand celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And to do so it’s treating us, and hi-fi fans in general, to the new NSC 222 streaming preamp and NAP 250 power amp.

What makes these speakers interesting is that Wharfedale has designed them to be taller, wider and a lot deeper than the original Dovedale 3 models so that it can load them with new drivers and a wealth of new technologies. When it comes to high-fidelity audio systems, both Mission and Rega are renowned names in the industry, known for their commitment to producing audio equipment of exceptional quality. In this article, we will compare two exceptional products: the Mission 778X floor-standing speakers and the Rega Brio integrated amplifier. Each of these components plays a unique role within an audio setup, and we’ll explore their key features and how they contribute to an immersive listening experience. To ensure reliable, undamaged delivery of televisions - TVs will now be shipped on a pallet service with DX Freight, TNT, or Epic Logistics, rather than with our standard next working day courier.

Features

Digital sources benefit from the 778X's internal DAC built around the ES9018K2M chipset from the Sabre32 Reference family. This hands the new amp ESS Technology's 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator to deliver excellent dynamic range and ultra-low distortion. Furthermore, hi-res PCM is supported to 32-bit/384kHz, alongside DSD to 11.2 MHz (DSD256). We are told that care has been taken to partner the ESS chip with complimentary circuitry, including a post-DAC active filter. Mission says its design team paid great attention to this circuit, using op-amps chosen explicitly for their synergy with the ES9018K2M. Wharfedale originally teased the Dovedale at Munich High End 2022, but it only properly lifted the lid on the new speakers in February.

As a bit of hardware, they are fairly impressive, featuring Fyne’s smallest IsoFlare driver, which combines a 5-inch (125mm) multi-fibre cone mid/bass driver with a FyneFlute surround and a 19mm magnesium dome high-frequency compression driver with a neodymium motor system. Special mention does have to be made of the phono stage too. As noted, this JFET based design has appeared in the Leak and some Audiolab models and it’s a fine vehicle to enjoy a turntable through. Given that they both make turntables by the score, it’s no surprise to find that the phono stages in the Rega Io and Pro-Ject Maia S3 are very good but the Mission can keep them both honest. There is a sweetness to its presentation as the duo powers its way through IN DREAM by Editors that works exceptionally well with the Rega and this is something you would use because it’s genuinely good and not because you didn’t feel you had a choice. Large Appliances - (Washing Machines, Dishwashers, Fridge Freezers etc). Free Local Delivery Service (Cumbria, SW Scotland and NE England*) 2-3 working days. The neighbouring internal DAC is built around an ESS ES9018K2M chip and with special attention reportedly paid to the post-DAC filter. It can be accessed by a range of digital inputs: USB, coaxial, 2 x TOSLINK and AAC/aptX-enabled Bluetooth. Analogue inputs include 2 x line-level (for CD players and streamers) and a “low-noise JFET-based” MM phono (for turntables). The pre-amplifier outputs can be used for connecting the 778X to an outboard power amplifier or subwoofer. The Mission clearly borrows some design cues from the Quad Vena Integrated Amplifier; the amplifiers are likely manufactured and assembled in the same facility overseas.

The team at What Hi-Fi? has made no secret of its desire to see smaller, better-sounding hi-fi arrive this year. And from what we’ve seen so far, Cambridge Audio’s going to deliver exactly that with its new MXN10 streamer. We do provide installation options for built-in appliances providing it is simply a case of fitting the appliance and furniture doors. Any additional work to the kitchen units or carpentry work required will need to be completed at the customer’s expense. The Mission 778X is a set of floor-standing speakers designed to deliver impressive audio quality and create a captivating soundstage. Here are the key aspects of the Mission 778X:

This is also down to the presence of a digital board which is a very respectable piece of hardware for an amp of this nature. Built around an ESS Sabre32 ES9018K2M DAC, it offers one USB-B, two optical and one coaxial inputs alongside a Bluetooth connection that is aptX and AAC compatible. The USB input handles PCM to 384kHz and DSD256, which is in advance of anything else I’m aware of at the price (with one partial exception I will cover in the sound quality section). Unlike Audiolab designs, there is no MQA support but… in the current climate, I am not sure how critical that’s going to be. The presence of that USB connection is a significant boost over most rivals at this price. It’s easier to assemble a full system around the Mission than almost anything else because a smartphone with the relevant adapter is going to give you full fat Hi Res from a selection of streaming services.

Today’s Mission 778X maintains the influence of simplistic operation, large tractile controls, and a multitude of inputs. Modern twists, such as LED level indicators and all-encompassing connectivity options, make the 778X a truly contemporary integrated amplifier. Boasting a genuine 65 watts (@4 ohms) of power via an utterly modern and refined signal path, to standards akin to the exemplary standards to which Mission loudspeakers are developed. phono stage, που έχει μεγάλο, ανοιχτό και διακριτό ήχο, πλήρη βινυλιακής γλυκύτητας και ορμητικότητας. Versatility: These floor-standing speakers are versatile and can be integrated into a variety of audio systems. They work well with a range of amplifiers, offering compatibility with different setups. Unfortunately, our Installation Service excludes all gas appliances. Any work conducted by a third part gas safe engineer will be at the customer’s expense and we will not accept any liability for their work. Sharper eyes not thrown off by the huge Mission logo on the top plate will notice the similarity between the 778X’s chassis (and power button) and the Audiolab 6000A’s chassis (and power button). That could be because Mission and Audiolab are owned by the same parent company: China’s IAG.They gave me the same feeling that the Mission m32i did when I first brought them home. They made all of my music sound brand new. They were a game changer for me and while their greatness may have been unseated by the MA Silver 300 7g’s, they are still number one in this household until I can spring for a pair of the 300s. The Fyne Audio Vintage Five were a wonderful surprise hit with the What Hi-Fi? team at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2023 in February. Inside is a hi-res DAC based around the ES9018K2M chipset from the Sabre32 Reference family. Because this uses ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, it should provide great dynamic range and low distortion. Hi-res PCM files are supported up to 32-bit/384kHz, and DSD to 11.2 MHz (DSD256).
