About this deal

For cleaning out the brush, after every session, I use Spraycraft or Liquid Reamer cleaner from an aerosol can. It can’t be 100%, and I know my Walthers Solvaset is far more aggressive so has more active ingredient. While you can certainly use other cleaning agents in your airbrush, I like good ‘ol windshield washer fluid the best because it’s cheap and you can find it almost anywhere. Make sure you have enough ventilation in the room where you are planning to build models as the cement can easily cause headaches for some people.

One problem I had was the garage door which fitted in only various places allowing wind thro agitating dust. Finally, before I start spraying a new colour, I always remove the needle to check if there is any dried residue on the needle. The name brand products like Medea Airbrush Cleaner and Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner tend to be the default cleaners that everyone assumes are necessary. But nowadays many companies dealing in the plastic scale modeling business have brought their own versions of extra thin cement. I also keep a cotton bud soaked in x-20a to dab on the needle and flush through with either Badger or Creative Model Airbrush Cleaner, these unclog. even the paint reservoir and a cotton bud took some effort, doesnt look like it did when it was brand new just prior to this test. As you would probably expect, there are differences in the chemical compounds used to produce these two types of cement. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I use both Tamiya and Xtracrylic thinners all the time - mostly Xtracrylic thinner - and that works well for me in making the Tamiya flow well through the brush.Just dont soak the Evolution head gubbins in Alclad Airbrush cleaner, unlike the Iwata it will bugger up the black seal. Using windshield washer fluid as an airbrush cleaner will save you a TON of money over the long haul. The bottles cost a few bucks each but you could use just about any container that will give you good control when dispensing the cleaner – an old counter top detergent bottle or a used water bottle with a sport top/pop top. I build too slow and prefer the old slow Testor’s Liquid Cement in a Tamiya bottle most of the time. Great for getting the last of the acrylic paint from your brush even after you have cleaned it with water.

I have been using the airbrush cleaner as liquid cement for several years now and actually just refill the same old green top bottle with an eyedropper every so often from the airbrush cleaner bottle. There’s really no reason to use such spendy cleaners in your airbrush when a readily available and much cheaper substitute can be used. Keeping your airbrush clean is fundamental to having a hassle free and fun airbrushing experience so it’s a good idea to develop a good cleaning regimen. Yes, the parts will stay glued together after within seconds of application but it takes much longer to form a strong bond. You can use it as a thinner too but it doesnt have the retarder in it like Tamiyas own thinners does , so its best to use their own stuff for thinning .Of course, it is not always possible to do it this way but the method works fine for fuselage halves which are sometimes prone to this problem.
