About this deal

With its striking, unique aesthetics and reliable performance, the Origin mic by Aston is a decent choice for rappers. Featuring a 1 inch, gold-evaporated capsule, it stands out amongst the crowded field of condensers. I feel the low-cut filter is best not used for vocal recording, as it noticeably affects the bottom end of the vocal range. It could be useful when using the mic as a drum overhead, though, as it often helps to roll off the bass when mixing the sound in with the predominantly middly and bassy close mics.

The most important quality to look for is clarity. Rapping is a complex vocal technique that relies on certain syllables and sounds being emphasized. A good microphone should hone in on these finer details, to produce the best quality outcome possible. People with lots of facial hair have to keep a distance from the pop filter, otherwise there will be some unwanted noise

What are you trying to record?

Included with the C01 is a swivel stand mount, a gold plated XLR connector, and a heavy gauge protective metal grill, and finally, a useful carry case. I've had a few friends, who had only used established mics like the Rode NT1-A by that point, ask me what exactly did I change in my setup which improved the quality of recording that much. They couldn't believe that it was nothing but just the addition the Aston Origin to my arsenal. Although unashamedly entry-level, the C01U is quiet and clean enough to record vocals and instruments to a very acceptable standard, provided that they are close-miked, and its performance is well above that of any multimedia mics I've tested. As far as I can tell, the subjective performance of this mic is essentially the same as that of its wired counterpart, and that model has sold well for Samson. The digital noise issue will be a concern if you have a G5 tower-based studio system, but it could be argued that anyone with such a deluxe computer should be looking for a more sophisticated mic anyway! On top of that, Samson develops Wireless systems and PA systems, further supporting their microphones for what they were intended to be used.

The Samson C03 is a smart-looking mic with multi-pattern performance at a budget price. Its technical spec is more than adequate in all the areas that are important, and what really matters is that it makes a fine job of just about anything you care to point it at. A switch on the rear of the mic allows selection between supercardioid, omni, and figure-of-eight polar patterns. Photo: Mark Ewing A younger sibling of the legendary AKG C414, the C214 builds upon its predecessor’s qualities and presents them in a more affordable format. The components used are very similar to the revered C414, with some slight adjustments which make it ideal for rappers. For a variety of purposes, both bi-directional microphones and Omni microphones work fantastically. A unidirectional microphone is sometimes a better choice for live sound and recording. Samson mics represent a fantastically affordable way to get your ideas recorded, or get your band out the PA system. Using the same technologies that are employed by much more expensive companies, Samson have a range of microphones to suit your application and budget. Here's what Samson say about the CO1:

Different rappers have varying vocal ranges. Some may predominantly rap in the lower registers, while others may prefer to rap at a higher pitch. Generally speaking, the human voice doesn’t go beyond the parameters of 20Hz – 20 kHz.My friend bought this for his budget bedroom recording setup. He upgraded from a Mojave (I know, you probably never heard of them) mic, and the difference was immense. Compared to the Samson, the Mojave sounded quite artificial. In addition to the standard cardioid polar pattern, you can also gain access to omnidirectional and figure-of-eight. The latter two polar patterns are great for recording two sound sources simultaneously. At MusicianNerd, microphones is what we do. Save yourself the trouble and let us help you find the perfect

It is a large-diaphragm condenser mic that is versatile. This mic was introduced in 2002, and it has been popular ever since. Its primary characteristics are evident in the highly competitive microphone industry and all the available options. Well, I’m partial to audio interfaces, and I use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. It works great with entry to mid-level condenser mics, and the Behringer C1 is no exception (I personally use it with the Samson C01). Highly recommended. It’s extremely difficult to come up with a Final Word here. So I’ll pose the question: What are you trying to record? Despite its multi-faceted performance, the NT1-A is a vocal mic first and foremost. Due to its wide frequency range, no matter the timbre and pitch of your rapping, this mic will capture all of it. Rapping involves syncopation, rhythm, and placing emphasis on certain vocal sounds. To record in this style, you need a microphone that authentically reproduces the tone and pronunciations of your vocals.

Even though 19mm is bigger than an intermediate diaphragm, we think it’s at the bigger end of a medium diaphragm. A large-diaphragm condenser microphone can be larger than 19mm, and sometimes even 22mm. When choosing the best mic for rap vocals, it’s important to consider the specific capabilities that each model offers. Although vocal mics are fairly consistent in some aspects, there are many variables that will affect their ability to record raps.
