We know plenty of birding experts who like the M5 mid-priced Monarchs. Advantages of Monarch 5 over Monarch 3

The binoculars are compact and lightweight enough to take with you anywhere but they are also tripod mountable so that you can use them hands-free. This can be particularly valuable when having to remain in a static position for an extended length of time. what I found worked for me were the small field optics wings. they helped reduce stray light at the sides when folded out, and I place mine at the lip of the ocular where they add to its circumference as it meets my face even if the wings are folded away.

That's not good. going to be a comfortable binocular to carry around, so again, unless you are doing mostly stationary birding, go for either the 8x42s or 10x42s. I'm not going to fiddle with ill-fitting lens covers in the field. They just get in the way of seeing birds. The soft carrying case I kept, but not for carrying the binoculars. I kept it for carrying lens cleaners and spare batteries and memory cards for my camera! because they use Nikon's model numbers, such as "7542" which denotes the latest model of the Monarch 5 8x42s Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements andoptically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect theimagery.

Does anyone have any new/current info on the Monarch 7 8 x 30 issues mentioned there? Have there been many more reported cases? Have these issues been seen in current models? Namely, these are the Vortex Viper HD, Zeiss Terra ED, the Hawke Frontier ED X, and the Bushnell Forge, all 8x42 binoculars.

The focus wheel on these feels superior than the previous generation. The depth of field is so much greater in these as well that you barely have to move the focus, and if you need to snap to something close up, the focus is very fast and buttery smooth. I’ve never used the Nikon EDG optics, but people always talk about that focus wheel as being the best ever, and perhaps this one is close to that level? I’m not sure.Multilayer coating is applied to all lenses and prisms. Dielectric high-reflective multilayer prism coating and phase correction coating are applied to the roof prisms. All of this effectively combines to deliver a bright field of view plus natural colour fidelity. The Monarch M5 10x42, by virtue of its 42mm objectives, is a bigger, heavier binocular. tipping the scales at 640g. 42mm objectives are still pretty much the standard size, and 8x42 and 10x42 models in particular are universally popular for nature observation, birding, general observation and even a bit of stargazing. I should stress that 640g is by no means heavy for a 10x42 and the M5 sat really nicely in the hand.
