ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT in Manchester - Guided Walk during Manchester... - Meet: by the Historic wall map - Manchester

An Arts & Crafts walking tour through Manchester city centre** Tickets are essential **The Arts & Crafts Movement emerged in the late 1800s as a response to industrialisation. It sought to both correct the damaging social conditions and reform the design and manufacture of everything from buildings to jewellery. Many of the people involved in the Movement were influenced by William Morris: “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”Across Manchester city centre are many fine examples of the Movement‘s architecture, sculpture, memorials, furniture, metalwork and stained glass. You’ll see beautiful work by practitioners such as Eric Gill, Edwin Lutyens, Basil Champneys and George Wragge. Locations visited include Victoria Railway Station, Manchester Cathedral, John Rylands Library, St Ann’s and St Peter’s Squares.Meet: By the historic wall map inside Victoria Railway Station
