About this deal

This 2015 Vintage Port Wine from Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, a vineyard to which The Symington family has a strong attachment to. From one end of the flavour spectrum to the other, Pedro Ximenez sherries are made with the grape variety of the same name which are picked overly ripe, or sun-dried for intensity of flavour.

The 1966 is a top success for that vintage; in fact, it would be hard to find a better port from that year. This is a port from specially selected lotes that are blended together to make a ruby port that has tones and flavours more redolent of Christmas than other Dow ruby ports, such as Icon. We followed the serving recommendations from each brand, from keeping the liquid at room temperature, chilling it, or decanting it before pouring. This firmly-structured, classic, tightly-knit, restrained port exhibits brilliant purity as well as impressive intensity.Dow's is a family-owned Port house that has been producing traditional-style Port for more than 200 years, despite war, disease and economic turbulence.

Dow’s are known for their superbly concentrated wines; intense and tannic when young, maturing to a superlative racy elegance with violet and mint aromas.Aged for six years, and made with liquid selected from three casks in which the layer of flor yeast is still alive, you’ll still get plenty of character. This tawny port is made from a selection of several plots from one of the oldest vineyards in the Douro region.

Best known for intense, impressive and age-worthy fortified wines, Portugal relies almost exclusively on its many indigenous grape varieties. At this very early stage of its life, it means you are more conscious of the spirit, but this positively unshowy Port plainly has a long life ahead given its deep reserves of fruit and imposing structure.

Kg per vine) picked on September 29th, and another lagar of Touriga Nacional also fermented with Sousão. He married an Englishwoman and was rapidly assimilated into London society where his business acumen led to a fine reputation for his wines. This has a superb nose of rich, ripe berry fruit with the typical slightly austere and firm reserve of Dow. We can't offer refunds or exchanges on perishable goods such as flowers and food, unless faulty or not as described.

Undaunted, Bruno da Silva applied for ‘letters of marque’ (Royal Assent to equip a merchant ship with guns) to secure safe passage of his Port from Oporto to Bristol and to London. During the ageing process the wines are tasted regularly and only deemed ready for blending when they taste right, which is why there is no specific age given to the port. Dows 30 Year Old Tawny Port has coppery-amber tones framed by a pale orange-green rim, this wine has saline scents alongside elegant floral notes and a touch of cinnamon. The story of this House is unusual – rather than a British merchant journeying to Oporto, it was Bruno da Silva who travelled from Oporto to London. In the longer-aged ports on our list we’re seeking character; those deeper notes of fig, nuts, and butterscotch. It began in 1798 when Bruno da Silva, a Portuguese merchant from Oporto, made a journey which was the opposite to that of the first British merchants.
