Events from Fantastic Four are informed by what occurs in FF and vice-versa, and the paperback collections individually only provide part of the story. Hickman introduces a lot of ideas early on, and at some point you start doubting if all this will eventually have some sort of payoff. And in the aftermath of an endgame beyond imagination, the FF explore the furthest reaches of the Marvel Universe - from Wakanda to the Negative Zone, from the past to the future! As cool as the sci-fi adventures of the F4 are, stories like these are carried by the characters, and I've gotta say, Hickman's Fantastic family is endlessly charming.

He loves the Marvel Universe, he thinks big, and he does a really solid job with diverse character voices. If I reread the book, I might see how it was foreshadowed throughout, but on the first go, it sure felt like it came out of nowhere and didn't hit as hard as it could have.this sets off a fairly complex storyline with lots of things going on in the background with maneuvering by Doom, Moleman, The Wizard, and several groups including the Inhumans and the Atlanteans. But the Celestials invade the Reeds' sanctum, which pretty much puts and end to that, until a few of the Reeds crop up to present a problem much later on.

Similarly I don't know how Doom suffered brain damage, and the dead Future Galactus is only briefly explained later in the book. The previous omnibus collection of Jonathan Hickman’s work ended rather disappointingly with multiple plot threads still in play, and these aren’t addressed immediately, but when he does conclude them it’s a spectacular sequence occupying the middle third of the book.

A pensare a come tutto sia stato progettato già con queste storie, vengono i giramenti di testa, e credo anche che una serie così “complessa” e stratificata può essere goduta appieno solamente in una soluzione unica come questo enorme Omnibus (che è comunque il primo di due volumi in cui si dipana tutta la run di Hickman).
