About this deal

The Shack describes the experiences of a man named Mack after his religious faith flounders in response to a devastating tragedy—the murder of his young daughter. Despite the fact millions of copies have been sold and the book has climbed its way to the top of the New York Times Bestsellers List, I found The Shack to be preachy and fake to the point of insincerity. Many people are and that's fantastic, but this book was so stupid that I have hopes that any well informed, well read, reasonable Christian would have asked themselves 'What the fuck did I just read? As some of you know, I personally believe that most authors have one great book in them and it is often their first (see Tracy Chevalier and J. They talk about judgment and she tells Mack that HE is the one who judges every one based on their clothes, appearance, etc.

I once saw a poster that showed a series of photos starting with a large Collie dog in between two small black pups. There they find a ladybug pin that matches a signature left by a serial killer known as “Little Ladykiller. Mack's family leaves to visit relatives and he goes alone to the shack, unsure of what he will see there. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. Not exactly correct theology there - yet fundamentalist Christian churches across the globe don't hesitate to teach sermon after sermon on the symbolism of the redemption story. As an adult he has a fulfilling life with his wife, Nan, and their three children: Kate, Josh and Missy.

Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa [Octavia Spencer]. He is airlifted to a nearby hospital and drifts in and out of consciousness over the next several days. Although my experience of suffering and pain is not to the same degree as Mack’s, I have many of the same questions he has. The purpose of their visit is to help Mack better understand his life as seen from a much broader context or higher perspective, the goal being to help free him from an inclination to pass judgment upon himself and others, and to help heal himself and his family after Missy's death. When Mac is telling his guests about his family and stops saying, "Now here I am telling you about my kids and my friends and about Nan, but you already know everything that i am telling you, don't you? Provoking Mack’s anger by reminding him of his daughter’s killer, the woman asks if God is to blame for what happened. Mack and Papa begin walking through a path in the woods marked by the sign of a red arc drawn on certain trees and rocks. The man is very friendly, even with Mack's gun pointed at him, and invites him inside to warm himself up by the fire. The film ends with Mack attending church again with his family, as the audience is left to decide whether the events that happened at the shack were real.

Windblown Media released The Shack in 2007, and by the summer of 2008 it had become a surprise bestseller, driven largely by word-of-mouth promotion. John Mulderig of Catholic News Service said the film was "an intriguing endeavor" but had many problematic elements. a space for you to explore life, God, the world and what it is to be fully human, and to do so alongside a growing group of friends? Mack finally reveals what the rest of us have been feeling all along, anger – anger that a small child like Missy could be brutally murdered by an evil man, who gets away.As would be expected, these years had been difficult for Mack and the rest of the family, a period he describes as “The Great Sadness. In fact, I often tell people if you never read any other book in your life, do yourself a favor and get The Shack. The cave wall opens to the back of a waterfall, through which he sees Missy playing with other children.
