Following its success they launched a standard 8 year old in 1996 without the finish or fancy bottling – that’s the bottle I have. Bacardi Reserva Superior 8 Year Old Rum 70cl is a premium, golden, sipping rum, made from a blend of Bacardi Rums aged between 8 and 16 years. Each batch of Bacardi Reserva 8 Year Old Premium Rum, 70 cl is made from a special selection of barrel-aged reserve rums and aged for a minimum of 8 years, giving it a refined flavor with notes of prune, apricot, nutmeg and vanilla.

The bottle itself has all the usual Bacardi touches, the bat and the Case Fundada En Cuba slogan emblazoned across the bottom. Originally kept as the special reserve of the Bacardi family for over 135 years, this wonderfully fruity, complex, but well rounded sipping aged rum is best savoured neat over a generous serving of ice. Our packaging is eco-conscious: 100% recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable internal fittings made from recycled materials. The flavour profile of both rums is consistent, it’s just that the newer bottling took it a few notches higher – it could also be a side-effect of the 8 Year Old sitting in the bottle for longer, but I doubt.The tube and bottle have that sort of retro look that Bacardi go for and is consistent with the usual Bacardi branding. A blend of Bacardis finest Caribbean rums, is aged for at least eight years in carefully selected small, mature oak casks before being masterfully blended to develop the rounded complexity.
