Also the locations and sets make you feel as if you are right there on the case with the Chief Inspector and his men. Michael Gambon is spot-on as Maigret, one of the best and most faithful to the books as a matter of fact.

I like the recent,Rowan Atkinson version of Maigret but this version is bigger budget and a better view of Maigret and his team in a more sinful Paris.
