It's Emmeline's Birthday! - The Pankhurst Centre - Manchester

Come and celebrate Emmeline Pankhurst's 161st birthday at the Pankhurst Centre! Emmeline was born on the 14th July 1858, just around the corner in Moss Side. She moved to number 62 Nelson Street in 1898 and lived here with her young family until 1907. It was from this house that she called the first meeting of the Women's Social and Political Union, the movement that became known as the Suffragettes. On Sunday, 14th July, in what will hopefully become an annual tradition, we are inviting visitors to come and celebrate Emmeline's birthday with us. There'll be music, performances, and workshops happening throughout the afternoon, and tea, coffee and cakes available in our garden. Your little radicals can take advantage of storytelling and craft sessions too. All proceeds from the day will go to supporting the Pankhurst Trust, so now's the time to stock up at our Suffragette shop and get your hands on those feminist gifts for the wonder women (and men) in your life. For more information about the important work done by the Pankhurst Trust, please visit our website.
