A simple rhyming story about friendship, there’s a strong lesson about how to deal with bumps in a friendship (but it could apply to any relationship—siblings, for example). Poor chicken thinks this is very unfair, they are not sharing or playing with him, so chicken decides to bombard them with his presence, hoping they will back down and let him play, but Bear and Squirrel just ignore him and claim, "Three is a crowd". While the premise of the story is all about friendship and appreciating our friends, I also found the story to be a bit problematic. As a piece of entertainment — even a period piece — they provoke the feeling that, if it had been released in sequence, the album probably would have been greeted as an almost unqualified dog. Bear offers to ‘ listen to ideas‘, help whenever it’s necessary and further, suggests the pair are like ‘strawberries and cream.Bear doesn't seem to know his own strength or how much space he takes up and finally squirrel snaps. So, that, plus glue, and I'm wondering if this person is thinking for him or herself, if there's some kind of power play going on in this relationship. Both songs are 'uncomfortable' for people used to the vocal abilities of the other band members, but they have a certain charm.
