Predictably Irrational is a book by Dan Ariely that explores the psychology of decision-making. Ariely argues that humans are not as rational as they think they are and that many of our decisions are based on emotional factors rather than logic. For example, why do our headaches persist when we take a cheap painkiller, but disappear when we take a more expensive painkiller with the same ingredients? Conferences. In The Invisible Gorilla, Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simons explore the psychology of attention and perception. The book is best known for its “gorilla experiment,” in which readers are asked to count the number of passes made by a team of basketball players. While doing so, they are instructed to ignore a person in a gorilla suit who walks through the scene. The vast majority of readers fail to notice the gorilla, leading Chabris and Simons to conclude that we are often blind to even the most obvious things.
