Freedom to Learn UK is excited to welcome you to a very special screening of School Circles, followed by a Q&A with the directors Marianne Osorio and Charlie Shread! This event is being hosted by Alexandra Park Children's Learning Community, an innovative, bilingual learning community for children aged 3-11 in South Manchester.School Circles is an independent documentary that explores the practice of democratic schools in the Netherlands. The film shows students, teachers and staff members coming together to discuss proposals, mediate conflicts and make decisions about their school life. These schools challenge mainstream education, and also democracy as we know it. They put into practice 'Sociocracy', a method for collective organisation based on a 'systems perspective, in which the decisions are made by hearing all voices and getting everyone's consent.School Circles connects the theory of sociocracy to its practice within schools, taking us to new possibilities of organising ourselves and our communities. Please note: doors open from 1.30pm. Be sure to arrive early for a good seat and prompt start. The screening time of the film is 1h29m.Freedom to Learn UK is a growing network of young people, families and educators striving for a more fair, free and democratic education and society.
