The furniture was made of wood, all dark and bruised, and the television set was small and old, and the curtains were gray with grime.
Welcome to the relentless world of Jack Reacher and his impressive tendency to be in the wrong place at the right time. In this novel Jack Reacher goes to Virginia to Meet Major Susan Turner who had intrigued him only to find out she was not commanding officer anymore. Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D. It hit like a how-to diagram and the guy’s head went up and back the same way his buddy’s had bounced around, and almost in the same second.Without passing of any of the story / spoilers - there is a part of the story (deep emotional angle mentioned above) and some other scenes which could disappoint a typical Reacher fan not used to it (did to me) - but this is not a major irritant to enjoying this book. Lee Child did a great job with making it a stand alone novel, but sometimes throughout the book I thought it would have been a little more helpful to read the past books and have a back story.
When Reacher points out that the military has no authority to investigate him due to his civilian status, Morgan reinstates him as an officer and gives him a room at a local motel, where the fight occurs later that night. This is one of the better entries in this long-running series and would make a great summer read--or any other season, for that matter. Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the Army, the FBI and the D.
They part ways, and Reacher drops his phone in the trash and walks to the nearest bus bench and sits down, alone.
