Well, I do have an ulterior motive… I want more young girls to fall in love with sailing! I’m hoping that this book will help them do that. As part of a school project, Alex is making new friends and exploring the history of the town that she now calls home. Her life gets intertwined with that of Eliza, who was a school teacher in the original town.Sophie Turner spotted with prestige bachelor Peregrine Pearson hours after the pair shared a raunchy kiss Princess Olympia of Greece is all smiles as she's spotted leaving her London home with TikTok chef Thomas Straker One thing I didn't really like was that the character and her friends were supposed to be seniors in high school, but it read like they were in 8th grade. Except for the fact that they drove, Alex had her boat license, and she falls for a guy, Sam, who is (?)university-aged, you'd think they were about 14. The 16-year-old embarked on her solo, unassisted and non-stop journey around the world on October 18, 2009. The premise of the story is a little hard to believe. Alex’s mother passed away a long time ago and her father has accepted a research grant for a year. Alex moves to this small coastal town to live with her aunt for the final year of school. This isn’t realistic. We don’t even really hear from the Dad at all during the book, and the relationship between Alex and her aunt is stilted and awkward. This was a way to have absent parents in the book — and a new setting for the character — but it felt like a flawed premise.

The True Spirit movie true story confirms that in the latter portion of her journey, Jessica encountered three monster low-pressure systems that formed in succession off Antarctica and surged through the Southern Ocean, producing 50-knot winds and gigantic waves up to 12 meters (39 feet) high. We had all come to terms with the dangers involved in what I was planning, so we didn’t let this stop us.” I did like the history aspect of the story, with Alex and Sophie digging up the information about Eliza and what happened to her.

In the book, Jessica says that she wrote several letters to the WSSRC asking the organization what she had to do to secure the record. They responded by stating that she would not be able to since age records were no longer recognized. The "youngest" category was removed in an effort to prevent ambitious parents from sending ever-younger kids out to sea. Still, she felt that she had done everything necessary for the record, including starting and returning from the same point and crossing the equator and all meridians of longitude. She pointed out that she sailed "a little longer" than Kay Cottee's solo, unassisted, and nonstop circumnavigation, which was recognized by the WSSRC. Indigo blue is the fiction debut from renown Australian sailor, Jessica Watson. Along with her excellent knowledge of sailing, Jessica brings to this fun and quirky story an obvious familiarity with the landscape and history of the coastal setting. Indigo Blue seamlessly combines sailing, friendship, and romance with magical realism.
