Naturally, any sealant you use for sealing bathroom sinks or kitchen sinks must be waterproof and mould resistant. UniBond sanitary sealants are specially designed for use in the kitchen and bathroom; they create strong, flexible seals and offer long-term protection from mould. Something I learn since this picture, was to cut the overflow pipe down prevent from sitting on the bend and stagnating. The P-trap is the U-shaped part of your sink drain which looks like an inverted P. It holds a little amount of water at all times, preventing sewer gases from coming up to your house.
If your kitchen/bathroom sink is leaking from below, you will need to remove it, apply a new sealant and then install it again. Scrape off old plumber’s putty or caulk from the top of the drain opening as well as under the rim of the flange. I needed to cut a series of waste pipes and elbows first while also ensuring my waste pipe wasn't too steep. The reason our sink plugs wouldn’t hold water was because the rubber washer underneath needed to be replaced. You can pull apart the plug by untwisting the middle handle part, which allows you to replace the rubber washer underneath. This is the seal that allows the plug to stop water going down the drain. It didn’t matter how I contorted the washer, the plugs wouldn’t keep the water in. Side note: some people don't trust these gaskets as they can leak. I've never had any problems. But you can use a ring of putty or silicone instead, then go to the next stage and remove the excess. Apply the bead of plumber’s putty under the rip of the sink flange to form a perfect circle underneath it. Cut off the excess putty. With the pivot rod out of the way, you will only need to lift off the stopper from the top of the sink. So under my sink its pretty straight forward there is a U-bend like trap that connects to a 90 degree fitting which at one end screws onto the U bend and the other end its a bit different. Avoid exposing the surface to water. Spray a cloth or paper towel with household cleaner and clean the area. Wipe dry. Then clean again with bleach, before rinsing and leaving to dry. This means my washing machine waste and sink waste are hooked up and drain in the same place. Or, you could bore another hole through the wall, which I didn't want to do.
