Fable II begins with Lucian murdering your sister and attempting to do the same to you because you have hero's blood and have the potential to unravel his plan. It would've been a very short game if he'd managed it. Haaretz Staff; Barkat, Amiram (7 May 2007). "Archeologist: King Herod's tomb desecrated, but discovery 'high point' ". Haaretz . Retrieved 7 May 2013. Cohen, Shaye. Ancient Israel: From Abraham to the Roman Destruction of the Temple. Prentice Hall Biblical Archeological Society. p.296.

When Archelaus was removed from office, Judea and Samaria were transferred to the control of Roman governors, known as prefects and, later, procurators. Eventually, Antipas got his wish to see Jesus when Pilate sent Jesus to stand before him at his trial ( Luke 23:7–12; cf. Acts 4:27). Herod Philip On the one hand, he was distrustful, jealous, and brutal, ruthlessly crushing any potential opposition. The Jews never accepted him as their legitimate king, and this infuriated him. However, the historical evidence for the event is only Biblical and in fact only one verse in Matthew mentions it. The event is notably absent from the other gospels. At first, subverted, in that everyone including Shen believes Po will be seeking revenge for this act; in truth he's repressed the memory and is in complete ignorance of Shen's deed.Herod died in Jericho, [21] after an excruciatingly painful, putrefying illness of uncertain cause, known to posterity as "Herod's Evil". [b] [66] [67] Josephus states that the pain of his illness led Herod to attempt suicide by stabbing, and that the attempt was thwarted by his cousin. [68] In some much later narratives and depictions, the attempt succeeds; for example, in the 12th-century Eadwine Psalter. [69] Other medieval dramatizations, such as the Ordo Rachelis, follow Josephus' account. [70]

Arthurian Legend: After hearing a prophecy that a child born on May Day, as Mordred was, will destroy him and his kingdom, King Arthur reacts in different ways, depending on the story: Herod “the Great” ruled as king of the Jews under Roman authority for thirty-three years, from 37–4 BC. It is this Herod who appears in the account of Jesus’ birth ( Matt. 2:1–19; Luke 1:5). The Romans also gave Herod the title 'King of the Jews' because of the Jewish population he ruled. The title of 'King of the Jews' begins to explain the impression we have of Herod from the Bible. The Bible shapes the popular conception we now have of Herod as a King who was proud of his title and would do anything to keep it. The massacre of the innocents Zeus in God of War is told of a marked warrior who will bring about his downfall. Naturally, he kidnaps the nearest birthmarked kid and imprisons him in Death's Domain. Unfortunately for Zeus, the kidnapped kid's brother is Kratos, who gets a tattoo in the image of his lost brother's mark. It's all downhill from there.

But wait—if Herod died in 4 BC, who was the Herod who appears later in the Gospels—the Herod Jesus interacts with? Schürer, Emil. He was also a great builder, a role which earned him the title “the Great.” His greatest project was the rebuilding and beautification of the temple in Jerusalem, restoring it to even greater splendor than in the time of Solomon. He is mentioned in the New Testament only in Luke 3:1 (the Philip of Mark 6:17 [cf. Matt. 14:3] is a different son of Herod the Great). Herod the Great’s GrandsonsAtkinson, Kenneth (October 1996). "Herod the Great, Sosius, and the Siege of Jerusalem (37 B.C.) in Psalm of Solomon 17". Novum Testamentum. Brill. 38 (4): 312–322. doi: 10.1163/1568536962613216. JSTOR 1560892. Herod and Sosius, the governor of Syria, at the behest of Mark Antony, set out with a large army in 37BCE and captured Jerusalem, Herod then sending Antigonus for execution to Mark Antony. [32] [33] From this moment, Herod took the role as sole ruler of Judea and the title of basileus (Βασιλεύς, "king") for himself, ushering in the Herodian dynasty and ending the Hasmonean Dynasty. Josephus reports this as being in the year of the consulship of Agrippa and Gallus (37BCE), but also says that it was exactly 27 years after Jerusalem fell to Pompey, which would indicate 36BCE. Cassius Dio also reports that in 37 "the Romans accomplished nothing worthy of note" in the area. [34] According to Josephus, Herod ruled for 37 years, 34 of them after capturing Jerusalem. In The Idhún's Memories, a trilogy by the Spanish writer Laura Gallego, in the world Idhún, Ashran the Necromancer uses an astral conjunction to wipe out all dragons and unicorns after hearing one of each will destroy him. Eventually, one baby dragon and unicorn are rescued and sent to the Earth through magic, which will end up killing him. He executed James, the brother of John, and arrested Peter ( Acts 12). His death at Caesarea as judgment by God is recorded both by Luke and by the Jewish historian Josephus ( Acts 12:19–23; Josephus, Ant. 19.8.2 §§343–52). In another version of the story, Cronus was just paranoid. He thought that since he had overthrown his own father, his children would overthrow him. His attempt at preventing this gave Zeus the motivation to overthrow him.
