About this deal

Indeed, Judge Dredd’s earliest adventures remain somewhat spotty with the creators having a long way to go until they reach the iconic status they will eventually reach across the pond.

Then we’re into the twenty chapters of ‘Judgement Day’, Ennis’s first Dredd epic and the first story to be published simultaneously in both 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine.Written by comic-legends John Wagner (A History of Violence) and Alan Grant (Batman) and featuring art by world-renown artists Colin MacNeil (Judge Dredd: America), Carlos Ezquerra (Preacher) and Cam Kennedy (Star Wars) amongst others, this is another essential volume in the Case Files collection! So to this day I still respect and love these comic strips even though comics and graphic novels have matured and moved on - this to me still is the heart of escapism.

Still, some of the satire is still biting like the fact the Statue of Liberty gets replaced by a bigger Statue of Justice. From mutant teddy bear killers to deadly alien predators on the loose, mayhem and madness are as rife as ever. M. DeMatteis, Ivan Velez, John Rozum, Ben Raab, Karl Kesel, Joe Kelly, Scott Lobdell, Various, Bill Everett, Joe Orlando, Gene Colan, Don Heck, Bob Brown, Sal Buscema, John Buscema, John Byrne, Carmine Infantino, John Romita Jr, Bob Powell, Jack Kirby, Barry Windsor-Smith, Alan Weiss, Klaus Janson, David Mazzucchelli, John Romita Jr.

It also shows just how far comics have come since the late 70's, although Brian Bolland's work is probably the begging of the more modern day feel.

Walter the Wobot, Dredd's fawning robot servant, gets introduced, mainly as comic relief as well as Dredd's landlady (later, maid), Maria.Perhaps the most popular 2000 AD artist of all time, Brian Bolland's clean-line style and meticulous attention to detail ensure that his artwork on strips including Dan Dare, Future Shocks, Judge Dredd and Walter the Wobot looks as fresh today as it did when first published. Toughest of them all is Judge Dredd, a man who has dedicated his life to stemming the tide of chaos. Los elevados niveles de violencia y criminalidad llevaron a la creación de los jueces, agentes de la ley con un entrenamiento que los hace casi invencibles y con la potestad de dictar sentencia y ejecutarla de inmediato. It's interesting to see Dredd's character and world as they are first established, but this collection will most likely be of interest only to die-hard fans and completists. Dredd himself doesn’t quite look himself (and you can see how early artists took up on Ezquerra’s unusual early idea that Dredd might be biracial in some way) and his jaw is particularly nothing like the iconic presence it would become.

The entire Soviet Union theme is also ever present and indicates that we are in for a lot more on that front. His Paradox Press graphic novel A History of Violence was made into a major film by director David Cronenberg, and Judge Dredd adapted into a film twice, most recently in DREDD by Alex Garland and Pete Travis. The robot rebellion was interesting but clearly not resolved properly so it’s bound to come up again. Written by comic legends John Wagner (A History of Violence) and Alan Grant (Batman), with art by Carlos Ezquerra (Preacher), Brian Bolland (The Killing Joke) and Mick McMahon (The Last American) and many more!Perps beware, as Dredd takes to the mean streets of the Big Meg once more to tackle the city’s most dangerous offenders. Dredd, of course, always gets his man and is on the side of justice no matter what, but this early Dredd is a bit of a goody two-shoes compared to the mid-80s onwards Dredd. For over three decades Judge Dredd has been one of the biggest stars of British comics, dispensing instance justice on the harsh streets of Mega-City One. Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Various, Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, Len Wein, Archie Goodwin, Bill Mantlo, Marv Wolfman, Jim Starlin, Dennis O'Neil, David Michelinie, Roger Stern, Jim Shooter, Mark Gruenwald, Michael Fleisher, Mike W. Empowered to dispense summary justice, these 22nd-century cops enforce the law in a society driven by violence and rampant crime.
