About this deal

Story of the World is a four-volume set that’s perfect to teach history to younger kids from 1st grade through 8th grade. Lee Strobel is an award-winning journalist and the author of more than twenty books, including The Case for Christ. Although the program leans more towards a Western perspective on world history, Story of the World is rather inclusive when it comes to teaching about other influential societies and cultures in history. RELATED: How to Use Story of the World with Multiple Ages No matter how you chose to use The Story of the World in your homeschool, you’ll probably find something in this post that will help you enjoy this wonderful history curriculum in your own homeschool.

Additionally, with so many historical topics and places covered in Story of the World, on occasion parents can find that their encyclopedia of choice does not have a relevant reading for a certain lesson (while other options may), which can be a little frustrating. The curriculum discusses early Jewish civilization and tells some of the famous stories of Abraham and Joseph. Make sure to set the safety filter at the bottom of page to on or watch with children to be able to reload page, if something objectionable comes up. This can also be a great option for students who have difficulties in reading, allowing them to work more independently. Since I have 6 children covering 8 school grades we have worked through all 4 volumes of SotW at least 3 times now. The Story of the World includes reading, writing, discussions and hands-on activities, making it a very multisensory history program that can suit a wide range of learning styles and preferences.

The lesson tells the story of how the goddess, Proserpine, was stolen by the god Pluto and that the result was the changing seasons. That being said, I do usually have to remind the kids about names, dates, and places because they’ll remember what happened but won’t always remember what was said.It uses storytelling within the context of relating historical events rather than telling selected stories, making it more comprehensive in coverage than earlier books.

At the end of each book, there are a few appendices that include a variety of materials that can help with teaching, such as larger scale maps, chronologies and even a helpful pronunciation guide, something that can help parents if they choose to use the program as a read aloud. Yet, despite its narrative approach, The Story of the World books does explore history in a fair degree of depth, covering not only important moments around the world, but also the different figures, contributions and social structures of a variety of different societies throughout history. I’m excited for you as you begin homeschooling — SOTW has been our very favourite resource over the years and I hope you love it! If your kids are sensitive, I would take a few minutes to read through the lesson and decide how you want to present it to your kids. While some of the activity books include short quizzes at the end of the book, Story of the World also offers dedicated and optional test books that parents can purchase.

Overall, we believe that The Story of the World can be a very valuable resource for homeschooling families. Find out where they were born, who influenced them, what significant historical event did they live through?
