About this deal

I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Katherine herself and I personally found it very engaging. If you’re a fan of Katherine’s unique brand of humour then it’s definitely worth a read, however she does tackle some pretty relevant topics and social issues (including a very candid dialogue on her experiences with toxic relationships and miscarriage) so I definitely suggest checking the content and TWs before reading.

The Audacity by Katherine Ryan | Goodreads

Outside of television, Katherine has sold-out venues across the world with her unique stand-up shows. But rather than acknowledge the omnipresent threat that many women like me feel, HUNDREDS of men have opted to send me defensive and often very aggressive messages in response. I wish that I had been more honest and courageous in my exit strategies, but I know that I did the best I could at the time and I calculated risk based on the information I had.The most controversial of her stories I think, and the one sure to raise a number of hackles, far more than her “man-hating” jokes, is the story of how she’d potty trained her daughter by 10 months. While many comedians asked about early idols might namecheck perhaps Monty Python or Richard Pryor, Ryan was a fan of celebrities like Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears.

Really refreshing to have a woman in the public eye talk so honestly (and hilariously) about her life, mistakes and triumphs without really caring what anyone thinks. Jessica’s killer spent just a few years in prison, was then transferred to a ‘healing house’ and is now free. There was not a conversation I couldn’t shoehorn a bit from The Audacity into and when you read this book (or listen to the audiobook) I guarantee you will find yourself doing the same.

The instant bestseller from the star of Netflix's The Duchess, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Your Face or Mine and host of All That Glitters. Detailing Katherine's journey from a naive ex-Hooters waitress fresh off the boat from Canada to comedy megastar, chapters will cover How to Potty Train Your Baby at 10 Months, How to Cut Off Your Racist Aunties, How to Marry Your High School Boyfriend and How to Co-Parent when you're a Single Mum. How audacious is that I can always take a joke, I don't waste time worrying about things I can't control, and I have zero anxiety. And we need to talk about this weird era because low-riding micro-skirts are coming back and I want young people today to have the tools to deal with that. I embrace the reality that you just can't please everyone, so you might as well put yourself out there and have a laugh.

The Audacity by Katherine Ryan | Waterstones

The private party did go ahead but it became something of a sombre wake; people murmured quietly for a bit, offered their condolences to any crying staff and left early. When she came off stage after that first set, where she joked about being a “dumb, useless girl”, she realised nothing had made her feel so shit and so alive all at once. Born and raised in Canada, she has lived in the UK since 2008 and currently lives in London with her daughter Violet and husband Bobby.I was working at Hooters and making lots of money and going to the Playboy Mansion, then all of a sudden, though I’m lucky enough not to be considered an immigrant, I’m a foreign, destitute, single mother. Having loved her on panel shows and The Duchess, I couldn't wait to read her book (I actually listened to her reading the audiobook) and it didn't fail to keep me laughing out loud throughout! The Uvalde shooting had happened and my book about raising kids just felt a bit too heartbreaking to read, so I thought a chapter or two of Katherine Ryan would tide me over and I would do my usual trick of leisurely reading a non-fiction book over a period of weeks or months. I received my review copy of Katherine Ryan’s book The Audacity on Friday and over the weekend I think I said “Well, Katherine says…” about 500 times. Why not No matter what I do, there will always be something about me that reads as simply, outrageously audacious.
