The rigid design and lack of a hose makes it difficult to clean behind furniture, around PC monitors, and other small locations. I've challenged this vac from Shark with all sorts of dirt, dust and fluff over the past few weeks in my own home. We’re impressed with how much you get for your money when you factor in the suction power and motorised pet tool.

We found it great to use on car seats, where the motorised brush bar was able to remove both dirt and pet hair. The overall ease of use score takes account of the manoeuvrability, ease of maintenance and versatility of each machine. The Shark Cordless HandVac Pet Model lies somewhere between a small wand-shaped cleaner and a larger handheld device that you’d normally hold more like a watering can. The only tricky bit I found was pulling the end off to put an attachment on, when other bits were released by buttons, but my grandson soon sorted that for me! It's got impressive suction which doesn't fade towards the end of its battery life, and no debris is too much for it to handle, making it a great handheld option for the best vacuums for pet hair.For example, the dual foam filters need to be pulled out by hand, rather than removing them using a plastic frame. These tools are standard, but the crevice tool is somewhat on the short side, so it’s almost useless for getting between car seats.

The Shark HandVac CH950UKT has a two-part filter, which can be accessed by removing the dust cup from the main body of the vacuum cleaner. The Cheerios come shooting up the tube, loop around the container’s domed end and are fired back along the bottom.There’s no doubt that the Shark CH950UKT is amongst the best handhelds on the market, but it’s not perfect. I previously bought a hoover hand held which was so disappointing as the suction was poor and it did not do the job. From stray hairs that just won’t seem to budge, to sawdust and cat litter spillages, there’s always something to tidy up. That said, we found that it offers impressive suction power that can pick up debris of all sizes from a range of surfaces. It offers a compact, lightweight form factor that makes it perfect for cleaning cars, as well as being on hand for quick clean-ups around the home, such as on worktops, tables and soft furnishings.

It’s important to keep the filters clean, however, to ensure that the vacuum doesn’t lose suction strength over time. Most of the debris and dust still ended up in the bin, but it’s certainly not the best choice for people with allergies. The lithium-ion battery which powers this vac takes approximately four hours to charge completely, so I left it to charge until it was ready.There’s a recent trend of handheld vacuums designed to be displayed on kitchen worksurfaces or lounge sideboards. The best models will suck up almost everything in their path, while others can suck up less than 10% of it. The Shark CH950UKT / Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Plus is a compact handheld vacuum that’s perfect for using as a car vac. We found the dusting brush useful for more delicate surfaces, although we felt that the fibres were stiffer than we would like. The bin mechanism isn’t the smoothest when you do need to empty it though, and we often needed to use both hands to help the bin to open.
