About this deal

She's previously been interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live on the subject of multi-room audio, chaired panel discussions on diversity in music festival lineups, and her bylines include T3, Stereoboard, What to Watch, Top Ten Reviews, Creative Bloq, and Croco Magazine. The Marshall III’s seem to be much better at drowning out white noise, which we discovered when we took them on the train for the morning commute. Personally, I love the grooved circles on the button, as it provides a firm thumb grip for single and long presses. Despite the Major IV sporting softer ear cushions than their predecessor, I found myself having to occasionally adjust them to alleviate the pressure on my ears during listening sessions. It’s no secret that on-ear headphones aren’t the greatest option for noise isolation, as they often let in more noise than they block out.

Speaking with my wife during a grocery run, she mentioned my voice sounded crisp, though she could hear some background noise. If you also have this problem with on-ear headphones, we’d recommend opting for over-ear headphones, which are usually more comfy, surrounding your ears rather than being placed on top of them. Treble is crisp and vocals are articulated with clarity, while the Major IV have no problem keeping up with changes in a track’s dynamics or tempo. Slimmer than their predecessors, they have a really stylish look, and the ability to fold them down means they are great for travelling. Marshall also integrated its own quick charging technology that gets you 15 hours of playback on a 15-minute charge.

Passive noise cancellation is never a strong point of on-ear headphones, but the Marshall Major IIIs are particularly disappointing in this regard. The Major IV house 40mm dynamic drivers and excel at delivering audio across the genres you’d naturally associate with the Marshall brand: punk, rock, indie and metal.

I finally realized the song doesn’t even have an actual bassline, only a powerful back-kick, and it knocked hard on these cans. Slimmer and a little more stylish than 2016's Marshall Major II, their light build makes them ideal for long journeys, although the pinching sensation typical of on-ear headphones is an issue.
