Having the original cast dictate the story – complete with Ben’s complete indifference to Gwen and eye rolling at Max’s educational tidbits – make it far easier for the younger players to get invested in and understand the story. Only you can save the day as you use your Omnitrix to transform into powerful aliens like Diamondhead, Four Arms and Heatblast. The sound design was also really good, the music sounded like the TV show, the voices with their one-liners were fun and I felt it made the experience more enjoyable having all these quips and pumping music.

XLR8/Rush can sprint around the map allowing you to get from A to B quickly or grind on rails/wires to reach otherwise inaccessible places. The trophies do offer some challenge though as there are a few for beating all three bosses without taking any damage.

Ben 10: Power Trip is launching October 9th, 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4 (reviewed on a base PS4), Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Ben falls into a funhouse commanded by Zombozo and faces several clowns on the way until finally facing the villain inside his trap: The Wheel of Miss Fortune. Ben, transformed into Heatblast, tests a new power and accidentally ends up burning the tent that Max bought recently, leading to being punished for 6 months and they leave for the city to find a new tent. Ben, Gwen, and Grandpa Max once again have their cross-country road trip in the Rust Bucket cut short by super villains and their evil, world-threatening plans.

While the simplicity of the combat bored my eldest son, my 7 year old twins enjoyed the fighting in this game because a) the moves look impressive and b) there’s no real penalty for getting defeated. Throughout the game, you are encouraged to not only destroy all enemies but also destroy any objects on-screen – in doing so you will receive ‘Alien Points’ which can be used throughout the game to upgrade your alien’s attacks or to learn new moves. Use each alien’s powerful combat moves to lay the beat-down on enemies with devastating combos, and solve puzzles with each alien’s unique abilities as you unravel exciting stories in playable episodes.

Diamonhead is the only alien with a ranged attack and can throw up a shield which will rebound projectiles back to their sender, perfect for the flying enemies that can be difficult to ground, for example.
