I’d highly recommend a visit – as well as tours, there’s also a visitor centre, bistro and the pièce de résistance, the alpacas! Excitingly, the Lakes unveiled The Whiskymaker’s Reserve in September 2019, the first in a series of single malt whiskies from the distillery. From The Lakes Distillery in Cumbria comes The Lakes Vodka, which is made with water from the River Derwent (the very same River Derwent which was mentioned in William Wordworth's book, The Prelude! The Lakes Pink Grapefruit Gin - Distinctively zesty pink grapefruit vigour meets the resounding juniper notes of The Lakes Gin.It sings much more in the glass when sat side-by-side with the original, which in comparison is little subdued. Using only a select few botanicals, we achieve flavour precision, ensuring every nuance is pitch perfect and crystal clear on the palate. By steeping the botanicals overnight like loose-leaf tea, they interact freely with the warm spirit to encourage the essential oils to release more slowly, protecting their delicate nature. The distillery now employs over 80 people, and has opened up new career possibilities: distiller, chef, warehouseman.
