About this deal

As you read his incredible story of faith and miracles, you’ll understand why we believe that all doors are open to God. After receiving missionary training in Scotland, Brother Andrew travelled to Poland in 1955 to participate in a Communist youth rally. He travelled there with a suitcase full of Christian tracts. Arriving there, he discovered that churches behind the Iron Curtain were isolated and in need of encouragement. God's Smuggler a b c d e Raska, Francis D (9 May 2015). "BIBLES FOR COMMUNIST EUROPE – A COLD WAR STORY – PART I". Hungarian Review. VI (3). Archived from the original on 3 March 2022 . Retrieved 30 September 2022. Henrietta Blyth, CEO of Open Doors UK and Ireland, said: “When Brother Andrew started his ministry, little did he imagine that within 60 years it would embrace millions of Christians worldwide. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy.” In 1957, van der Bijl travelled to the Soviet Union's capital, Moscow, in a Volkswagen Beetle, which later became the symbol of Open Doors. [3] An older couple, the Whetstras, had given him their new car because they had prayed about it and believed that van der Bijl would need the car. A man who lived in Amersfoort, Karl de Graaf, claimed that God told him to teach van der Bijl to drive. Later, when van der Bijl was in a refugee camp in West Germany, Philip Whetstra called van der Bijl to come to the Whetstras' new house in Amsterdam.

In my early days of walking with Christ, it seemed every Christian was recommending this book. Thirty years later, I've finally read it. All I can say is: What took me so long?Andrew, Brother; Janssen, Al (1 July 2007). Secret Believers: What Happens When Muslims Believe in Christ. Baker Books. ISBN 978-1-4412-3891-7. Brother Andrew's story remains as inspiring today as it was thirty-five years ago, and with these new releases it will motivate a whole new generation to risk everything to follow God's call.” Open Doors still distributes hundreds of thousands of Bibles and Christian books every year. But we also train and support persecuted Christians in other ways. The end of the book goes on to tell of his other adventure and of opening up Open Doors USA- a mission to those behind the Iron Curtain.

In 1955, Brother Andrew risked it all. Today, will you commit to pray, give and speak out to support your persecuted family? a b c d e Casper, Jayson (29 September 2022). "The Light Force of God's Smuggler: Arab Christians Mourn Brother Andrew". Christianity Today. Archived from the original on 1 October 2022 . Retrieved 1 October 2022. I will say that the events recounted here caused me to reevaluate my own life, my own Christianity, my own faith and my attitude toward faith. I've known for some time that the phrase "my faith" is a misnomer in that we need "the faith of Christ" not "our own" faith. Brother Andrew (Andrew van der Bijl) lived that out. He did it (with God's help) in a simple low key way. From his home in the Netherlands he traveled to and through the Iron Curtain countries and later across the world witnessing and speaking of Christ. There are many good books out there. But there are only a few that really pull you into the story, keep you on the edge of your seat, and leave you breathless and deeply inspired.
