About this deal

Using round rose handles: The lock or latch will likely obstruct any fixing screws resulting in too little wood to achieve a decent screw fixing. Many modern interior flush doors have a hollow core often consisting of little more than a honeycomb of corrugated cardboard to provide rigidity, and a thin plywood skin covered in a vinyl or foil decorative finish. With your batten firmly secured to the door you can then add any hangers, coat pegs or similar that you etc needed. Left unfixed, this will put strain on the lock/latch follower and risk damage to both the lock/latch and the door face. Next, measure and mark both the centre of the door where you want your batten fixed and also the batten itself.

The screw heads will be a close match to the style and finish of a 6 gauge raised head wood screw making it possible to secure your handles in the best way possible and they will look good too. Lay your piece of batten face down and apply several thin beads of construction adhesive across the face of the timber. Allow 24 hours for the construction adhesive to fully dry and you can then remove the screws and fill the holes over before painting. In terms of fixing the batten to the door you have two choices; use the same hollow door fixings mentioned above or glue the batten in place using one of the many construction adhesives available today. They also come supplied with correct sized drill bit to drill the correct size hole in the door to push the fixing in to so the surface of the plug is level with the surface of the door. Firstly, cut your batten to the correct length for your needs and then sand off the rough cut edge so it’s nice and smooth.

Hollow Door Fixings - Clarke Fencing

We've recently moved into a house where the top hinge of the bathroom door was loose making it difficult to close as it was catching at the top. In the following guide we look at some of the best methods of fixing to hollow doors and ensuring that the object you’re fixing actually stays in place on the door. Insert a piece behind the existing - but a longer piece so you can drill and fix it above and below where the hinge is located.Once dry construction adhesive is rock hard so if it’s crooked then there’s no way you will be able to get it off to level it. In this case you need to use bolt through fixings together with a lock or latch which has pre-drilled through fixing holes. Plasplugs specialised, Hollow Door Fixings are ideal for fitting coat hooks, name plates and other fixings to the narrow gauge of hollow doors and panels. I was able to tighten the screws of this hinge against the door which resolved the problem a few times but now the screws are just not gripping anything as it is a completely hollow door.

If you are looking for the strongest fixing point possible then the best solution is to attach a batten onto the door and then use this to attach your hooks, hangers or other objects. The lock block can be quite small to save on manufacturing costs and if the door has accidentally been hung with the hinge side (the hanging stile) on the swing side, there may be no lock block to find at all! Although we have used a coat hanging rail in this example, the exact same principles can be applied to any object you need to fix. Measure and mark the centre point of your batten around 30mm in from either end, drill out two small pilot holes and then countersink them ( see our guide here on pilot holes and countersinking for more information). Take two fixings and pop each one into a hole, pushing them in firmly so that the top of the plug sits flush with the door.Fixing screws have pulled out and no longer bite into the timber: Check that the screw has actually been screwed into the lock block and not a hollow part of the door. Hollow doors have a thin stile for the hinges and a thin stile with a block of wood for the lock on the opposite side. First we are going to use the purpose made hollow door fixings to fix a coat hanger rail to a hollow door and then we are going to secure a batten to the door using construction adhesive.
