What I did glean from the story is that we have three sisters - Teresa, the oldest; Natalie, the middle sister; and Jessica, the youngest and most fragile of the three sisters. There is also a mother who perish the thought you would actually call "mum". Instead she had her daughters call her by her given name, Eva. And then there was Dom, the girls' stepfather. This dysfunctional family, because they really are, lived in a a beautiful luxurious riverside mansion called Raven House. Eva is a habitual drug user and I suspect Dom is too, either that or he simply facilitates Eva's drug use. The woman is the worst kind of mother blaming her daughters for the death of Teresa's twin, Hope, five years before on the now embargoed Raven Island. Never mind the fact that the sisters all feel the loss of their other sister. And so as soon as each girl reaches university age, they escape the prison that is their home with Teresa being the first to leave. When she comes home to visit she brings along her new boyfriend Luke, despite warning him about her very strange and eccentric family. Nobody gets along, it's a wonder they even bothered. Greene, Steve (19 August 2022). " 'Bad Sisters' Review: Sharon Horgan's Murder Mystery Is a Sharp Family Story Spread a Little Thin". IndieWire . Retrieved 23 September 2022. As we jump from past to present, we are taken on a journey so mind-blowing that its conclusion will leave your blood tingling! This is told from the perspectives of Connie, DI Wade and an unknown narrator from the past. The blend of these three narratives made this read part police procedural and part psychological thriller with a dash of something sinister as well, I loved the merging of genres and it was executed seamlessly. DI Wade first made her appearance in Carrington’s debut, Saving Sophie and it was fantastic learning a bit more about her this time around. Connie was the type of character that you’re not quite sure about, her history is sketchy and I often wondered exactly how reliable she was which really kept me on my toes.I thoroughly enjoyed Bad Sisters and would recommend it to anyone who likes ‘seduction, intrigue, rivalry – and murder.’ I have Divas (also by Rebecca Chance) on my bookshelf and can’t wait to read that now! Alongside this murder, there is another mystery that Connie seems to be embroiled in. Stephanie who is in the witness protection scheme is one of Connie’s patients. Stephanie claims when she was a teen her younger brother set the family home on fire, and killed her Dad. Now, years later, Stephanie fears for her life when her brother starts sending her letters. Being in witness protection means no one should know where she is. Connie takes this information to Stephanie’s police handler, who claims Stephanie is an only child and there is nothing in her file about a fire. Could it be possible that these two incidents are linked? No, ‘Bad Sisters’ is not based on a true story. Neither is the television series an adaptation of a book. Instead, the series is based on the Flemish series ‘Clan’ created by Malin-Sarah Gozin. The original series (titled ‘The Out-Laws’ in the UK) follows the lives of the Goethals sisters, who try to free their sister from her tyrannical husband, Jean-Claude “De Kloot” Delcorps. The British adaptation of the popular series changes several character names and general settings but mostly follows the same general storyline as the source material. While there is not much information about the conceptualization of the original series, it is likely a fictional story and not based on true events. When flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price. I'm not really into girly contemporary novels, however the promising storyline was the reason why I decided to buy this book and give it a go. Like many of the other contemporary books I've read recently, this was definitely different from I would usually choose. I was pleasantly surprised by the writing and the themes behind the plot.

Regardless, readers will relate to the rivalry, ambivalent feelings, and raw honesty. By the end, they become partners, with the power to forgive. This is a powerful story of growth, self-awareness, and genuine insight into family relationships.Bad Sister is the first book that I have read by Sam Carrington. That will be remedied next year in my plan to catch up on books that I have fallen behind on. I can’t work out if is a series but at least one of the characters appeared in the earlier book.

I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via Lovebookstours as part of the book tour.I loved the premise and structure for Bad Sister, alternating timelines always appeal to me and multiple narrators that are done well are fun and Carrington nailed both aspects. This was an extremely fast paced and edge of your seat type of read from an author I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on. It is an interesting memoir, but other than the tooth incident, and the resulting guilt, it just appears to be a series of fights and activities she did with her brother. The face blindness is brought up once, but never brought up again. The ability to read people is also brought up, but never explored.

I love Rebecca Chance's work. She is a guilty pleasure of mine. Whenever I read really intense books and want to read something sassy, witty, glamorous and pleasurable, full of scandal book I turn to Rebecca Chance. She creates outrageous characters that do silly, scandalous things and I keep on devouring every word. It's her signature style and I just love it.Even though the story started off quite slow, it was still intriguing as I found myself needing to know why and how Connie's story connected to Stephanie's. It was revealed as a slow unravel throughout the book which was great as it definitely added to the suspense of the story. With every chapter that I read, the plot got more and more compelling and gripping. I found myself constantly guessing and read the second half of the book in one seating because I just couldn't put it down. Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ is an absolute joy of a show. Did I just call a show about a group of sisters trying to kill their brother-in-law a joy? Yes, yes I did. It’s a high stakes feeling show without actually being high stakes, so it’s perfect during our very stressful current times. What I mean by feeling high stakes and not being high stakes is you already know the murder victim, John Paul, and you’re just waiting for the how. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re rooting to see the murder in the past scenes even if you already know it happened. Because John Paul is a horrible human being top to bottom, hence why his four sister-in-laws have joined together to plot his murder. Falvey, Deirdre (11 August 2021). "Is that Sharon Horgan in the Forty Foot? 'Swim to her!' ". The Irish Times . Retrieved 23 March 2022. The art style in this actually wasn't my favorite. It definitely got the job done and looked fine, but it didn't stand out as anything especially great or beautiful to me. I usually don't have any issues with that aspect of graphic novels, so the fact that it stood out as something I wasn't wild about felt a little weird to me. That's a very minor criticism though, as I did enjoy the novel overall.
