About this deal

Many swimmers will use a conditioner or hair oils before swimming to protect their hair follicles from excessive exposure to chlorine. To remove chlorine from hair, look for shampoos that contain ingredients that can lift off build-up from chlorine, like sulfates (see: sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate) or chelating ingredients like EDTA or sodium citrate, which bind to and break down minerals like chlorine. It’s also fairly cheap and the bottles come in small enough sizes that they can be easily stashed in your swim bag. Then, when you do hit the pool, soak the hair with tap water before you swim, apply a conditioning mask to the very ends, comb through and braid to protect from damage and tangles.

But unlike other drying clarifiers, this one helps keep my hair soft with shea butter, sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, and castor oil. I limit swims to maximum 60 minute now, I never swim during the evening or when the after effects are likely to cause problems with work etc .I’m going to get the Paul Mitchell and decant it into my swim shampoo holder and use it only after I swim to see if that does the trick. Shampoo bars are economic too as each bar keeps on working, lasting so much longer than a bottle of liquid shampoo. Naturally derived oils, including Argon, Jojoba, and Shea Oil, along with keratin, Red Algae, and Dead Sea Minerals, hydrate dry hair post-swim.

I suggest using Davines Alchemic Chocolate Shampoo to maintain a beautiful brunette tint," Hans says. After swimming, you want to make sure that you’re treating your hair right, and that goes beyond just using the right shampoo. You can also spray on a vitamin C-based leave-in (which will neutralize some of the chlorine) or smooth on a moisturizing leave-in conditioner before swimming to help reduce some dryness and create that physical barrier between your hair and the chlorine. With an exotic mango and lychee scent, the shampoo is also said to hydrate and moisturise hair using aloe vera, vitamin A and pro vitamin B5.The chlorine pools at her swim lessons make her hair brittle, slightly green-tinted, chlorine-scented, and more tangled.

Chlorine makes your hair brittle, dried out, tangled, and in some extreme cases, extended chlorine exposure will cause your hair to thin and fall out.

So yes, applying shampoo (or conditioner or oil) before you swim will leave your hair slightly more protected, but you will also be spilling a stinky-butt oil slick into the pool that makes it harder for everyone else to breathe.
