About this deal

The linen is prepared on a frame made from 2x4's with some cross bracing. The detachable legs make it easier to store. The shelf life is up to 7 years when the lid is closed properly, the paint will remain in perfect condition, will not separate or go crusty and hard. Is there any way that you can talk to the paper hanger? If they have done this before they might be able to tell you the factors to consider. Other paints on the market such as latex, or anything less than 100% acrylic are using low quality and highly toxic vinyl and latex as they are inexpensive filers. Our products are made up of only the highest quality materials resulting in a virtually zero VOC highly quality paint.

From pure brilliant white to a whole spectrum of vibrant colour, and from matt emulsion paints to silk finishes, you’ll find the perfect tone and look within our range of interior paints - including wall and ceiling paints. Surface Preparation Materials at Jackson’s

You’ll see the word “gesso” interchanged with “primer” or “ground”. They all mean the same thing with respect to gesso for painting purposes. what’s the difference between primed and unprimed canvas? The most common substance used to prime a canvas is gesso. Using a brush, paint on an even layer of gesso over your canvas. If you’re still on the fence about whether to use linen or cotton, you can learn more about the pros and cons of each canvas in Cotton vs. Linen: Which Canvas is Best & Why?

I hope this overview of supports that are generally available here in the UK can be useful to you. Do let me know if you can add anything to the list, if you have experience with a particular support or just want to add some pleasant comment. I look forward to hear about your experiences in the world of painting supports! The next steps come down to personal preference: you could simply apply another coat of clear acrylic gesso for a natural linen look; or, for a modern white canvas, you can apply layers of white acrylic gesso. Because of Fusions supreme adhesion, distressing can be tough once the paint is cured. If you would like to do some distressing, we recommend doing it soon after the paint dries. Cure time is approximately 21 days, once again depending on the weather, similar to all water-based paints on the market. What does this mean? You can still use your piece gently, however the paint will be at it’s strongest to resist any marks the longer it has to cure. As huge fans of natural fabrics like linen, we often take its amazing benefits and qualities for granted. Even down to its natural color. Do you ever wonder what undyed linen fabric looks like? It's a great question, given that most of the linen textiles we buy are pure white or a wide range of colors.

How do you know if you have primed or unprimed canvas? Primed canvas will have a smooth feel. If you drop a little water on the canvas surface, it will bead up and the primer will prevent it from soaking into the canvas. On the other hand if you have an unprimed canvas this means it’s raw canvas. You will be able to see the weave of the canvas and if you drop a little water on the canvas surface, it will soak into the canvas. Why paint on primed canvas? An oil painting should be done on canvas, right? Wrong. It can be painted on a whole host of supports and the choice can be baffling. What are the differences between types of canvas? What should a beginner use? What do you use?

Fusion Mineral Paint is made up of 100% Acrylic resin and nothing less! This results in one consistent and cohesive surface across your piece.I use a larger brush for the centre of a shape and colour around the outline with my very fine brush. I hope these tips help a little and give you confidence in choosing your colours and applying them to the fabric. For this particular piece I used an olive green gold for the grass (but sap green is a more commonly found colour), prussian blue for the sky and burnt umber for the paving stones. I used a very dilute Payne’s grey for the window panes. All of the colours were watered down considerably before I applied them to the fabric.

An oil-primed canvas can only accept oil paints. Although oil paint can be applied to an acrylic gesso primer, acrylic paint will not permanently adhere to an oil-primed canvas and will eventually peel off. Oil primer contains oil paint and so you must apply a sizing of some sort first as a barrier. It usually need a few weeks to cure as well, so the surface is properly ready to paint on. As you can see, I'm preparing this linen in the garage where I have plenty of room to work. Working in an interior space is fine when using water-based products, but I apply oil-based primer outdoors and allow it to dry in a sheltered area outside. Sizing For oil-primed linen I recommend starting with layers of white acrylic gesso before adding a final layer of oil primer: it is much faster to do it this way and you will also reduce your exposure to petroleum distillates. I’m not sure how well canvas would do, it would depend on how well it can be sealed after it is mounted at the destination. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.Using natural rather than synthetic pigments allows for greater depth in colour and better durability to UV light and time. Once cured, a surface painted with Fusion™ is both water and stain proof. As you add more layers of primer the weave will become filled, and the canvas will get smoother. If you prefer to work on acrylic ground, then all you need to do is add more layers of gesso until you have a surface texture that appeals to you. Oil Primer This 11oz weight hemp canvas has more surface texture than the portrait grade linen above, otherwise they have similar appearance, strength, and longevity. The color of finished linen is determined largely by the conditions in which the flax was grown (for more on the life cycle of natural linen, from flax plant to homewares, go here). The growing and production process affects the colors of flax fibers. This means that different rolls of undyed linen fabric could be different colors, depending on their source and when they were produced.
