According to other readers (bare in mind I have only read Sanderson's misborn books so far, so I cant speak for the rest) this novella even had some ties to other Cosmere books.

As such, it contains huge spoilers for the books Mistborn (The Final Empire), The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages. First of all, it's way more piecemeal than anything else Sanderson has written, which he's aware of, per the author's notes at the end.

in the Mistborn series, it is advisable to read it after book 6 (The Bands of Mourning) due to some minor spoilers. Now, Brandon did a good job showing that finesse and technique are as important if not more so than force, but that still had the effect of letting Elend overshadow Vin in the role that was originally hers and hers alone, and it left a sour taste in many people's mouths. If any character besides the Immortal Indomitable Jasnah Kholin was going to come back from the dead, it would be the Survivor of Hathsin.

You get a detailed backstory on how the shards came in to play, and what else is going around in other planets, plus a deep dive in to the realm theory! In a really deep delve into the Cosmere (for which this Cosmere girl is so here for), we get to see Kelsier help Vin (and friends) save their planet Scadriel “behind the scenes.Kelsier is able to see a little ways into the future, and he sees that there is still hope for the city.

I’m going to give props to the fans and readers of Mistborn because I came into the series late and there is a huge thing that happens in the Final Empire that everyone I knew who had already read it totally kept under wraps and so I was extremely surprised and while heartbreaking it made the story that much greater. In doing so it reveals greater insight into those events, provides explanations for some of what happens in the background and, as the title suggests, it reveals secrets not just from the world of the Mistborn novels but also from the greater universe that many of Sanderson’s books are set in, the Cosmere. Hoid easily beats him up but doesn't actually damage his soul; Kelsier's pain is his own creation, his mind creating the pain that he expects. Please do not continue on if you have not read The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages! Only he could keep it secret for that long and then surprise his fans with a little extra something the same day he released another book.

Kelsier asks one of them as they transition through his realm if it's over, and she says that the end is near. Tor noted that the novella was an unusual one for Sanderson since it contained "less action, and a lot more time-killing while waiting for action". After Harmony remakes the world, Kelsier speaks to Spook and recruits his help in getting him a new "string" to the physical realm. During the process, he is able to see all three Realms, but when it's over, he is once again trapped in the Cognitive Realm.

Kelsier tricks Leras into revealing the location of the Well, and he races there, begging Leras for help in staying alive. This is a fan indulgent novella that will be rewarding to those who have read a lot of Sanderson’s books but completely pointless to those who have only read a couple or none. Resurrecting characters is a "dangerous trope" because Brandon wants death to be a real danger for his characters.I had a few questions sometimes throughout Mistborn 1-3 about what Preservation was doing and why a few scenes happened a certain way, but with this Novella it totally makes more sense.
