The action has gone on to include more than just Lady Joker’s crimes, and all the characters have different problems to deal with. Consists of 3 parts and was told alternatingly in between characters, Lady Joker revolves around a team of 5 men with different backgrounds, life struggles and resentment to meet and plan to kidnap the CEO of a Japan's largest beer conglomerate and asking for a huge sum of ransom from the company's corrupt financiers.

Lady Joker: Volume 2: The Million Copy Bestselling

Lady Joker] is a work you get immersed in, like a sprawling 19th century novel or a TV series like “The Wire. An immense and extraordinary feat of writing and translation that has been long-awaited in English, Lady Joker is at once a thriller and a sweeping cultural history of Japan, a love story and a work of poignant social commentary.

Viewing a society through the lens of a crime is like examining a disease or a corpse to get at the person: it exposes the foundations of human existence.

High-profile MP Emma Webster, who has launched a campaign to protect women from revenge porn, is the recipient of rage-fuelled messages from anonymous internet trolls as well as threats from an angry constituent who thinks she’s not doing enough to address his – equally legitimate – grievance. Of course, the discourse is about the corruption of modern society and especially the 'free enterprise' system and the conflict that presents in Japanese culture where loyalty and integrity often demand conflicting conduct necessitating a final denouement. Those who aren’t keen on delayed gratification may prefer to wait a while – or, since the first volume runs to a wrist-spraining 576 pages, may need to get reading right away. Takamura uses a sensational high-profile crime from 1984 as the foundation for a layered examination of Japan’s current social and economic inequities. Volume 2 picks up where the first ended, but despite the seamless continuation, readers might need some time to get back into Takamura’s distinctly dense prose and vast cast of characters.

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. One of my gripes about the Japanese fiction we read is it is often simply weird – little plot in favour of portrayals of outsiders. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Lady Joker, Volume Two written by Kaoru Takamura which was published in December 1, 1997. Kaoru Takamura created this work back in 1997 in Japan but it’s only been recently (2021 and 2022) where us English speaking folks have our own translated version to enjoy. I have come to the conclusion that I could live with out one, just immersed myself in this recognisable but slightly strange world.
