About this deal
As an only child, I find novels about the intricate mix of love and jealousy that occurs between siblings fascinating – and Carole Johnstone coveys the tangled web of affection.
The unique way the past and present were mixed created a dreamlike feel which was both intriguing and, at times, confusing. The grand old house is still full of shadowy corners, and at every turn Cat finds herself stumbling on long-held secrets and terrifying ghosts from the past. There were genuine surprises to go with it, and some of the big reveals totally caught me off guard.A thriller wrapped in a gothic fantasy, Mirrorland is such a fun read, despite some dark subject matter. A dread that I don't want to examine any more than anything else that's gone through my mind since all those voice mail messages began filling up my inbox.
Fans of Gillian Flynn's creeping dread and Liane Moriarty's nuanced morality and complex relationships should love this book.I reach for my wine again, relieved when the camera cuts away from the harbor to archive footage of lifeboats and helicopters.
