Panufnik and Purcell - Liverpool Cathedral - Liverpool

In this not to be missed concert, hear a musical programme spanning across the ages devised by one of Britain’s greatest female composers, Roxanna Panufnik. The repertoire will include Roxanna’s Schola Missa de Angelis, a modern reinterpretation of a ninth-century Gregorian mass. First performed in 2010 and commissioned by Liverpool Cathedral’s director of music Lee Ward, it will be the first time you’ll get to hear it in the North of England. In 2018 Roxanna was commissioned for a piece for BBC’s Last Night of the Proms. She is especially interested in building musical bridges between faiths and her first project in this field was the violin concerto "Abraham", creating a musical analogy for Christian, Islamic and Jewish faiths believing in the same one God.You’ll also have the chance to enjoy works for choir and strings by the Baroque master, Henry Purcell. Joining the choirs of both the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and Liverpool Cathedral is the Liverpool Cathedral Orchestra. The performance and will be conducted by Lee Ward and Christopher McElroy.Tickets available from the Cathedral Shop, or online: https://www.cathedralshop.com/collections/cathedral-events/products/07-06-19-panufnik-and-purcell.Standard £15 / Concessions £10Image ©Benjamin Ealovega
