About this deal

Access and play your digital music using PRIME GO’s USB and SD inputs. Choose to keep a large capacity SD card ‘always-in’ and available as a mini-hard drive, or execute easy DJ hand-offs with the USB port for a fellow DJ. Want to record your DJ set for an important gig? No problem; PRIME GO has you covered, able to record directly to any connected media source connected to it, even the one you’re playing from. Quantize : Tap this to enable or disable quantization. When enabled, time-based features like triggering cues and loops will snap to the beat-grid according to the Cue/Loop Quantization setting in the Preferences. • Well, to be fair, all these systems have screens that can just as easily be stared-at as a laptop. But, at least they are at the center of where you’re working, instead of way off to the side somewhere. Overall, the Engine lineup is pretty easy to sort through. My default recommendation here is the PRIME 4 and, in fact, it’s my top overall recommendation for a standalone DJ system excluding any other factors. It has many of the latest features to grace the Pioneer lineup. The most notable and obvious is the huge 10.1” touch screen, which has a high resolution and framerate that truly gives it a premium feel.

Engine DJ has released a new operating system update in version 3.1. It brings new and improved features and a series of fixes. This update ensures Engine DJ OS remains powerful and upholds its status as a dominant performance software. New features include Touch FX with new effects and touchscreen interaction, Main FX with twenty-six new and updated effects, Frequency parameter, a range of new Sampler features and the introduction of Smartlists, which organise songs automatically using pre-set rules from all connected devices. For more in-depth information, see our blog post here. New Engine DJ Software Update Version 3.0 The Denon still wins in the feature-for-feature department, but again… you get the full Pioneer mixer experience with the RX3… along with a much better FX engine. XDJ-RR vs. PRIME Go The Denon DJ Prime Go is an intriguing and fun new DJ addition to the company’s pro-focused Prime DJ gear range, which was launched today alongside the Prime 2. It’s a standalone, portable two-channel DJ system with a built-in computer, screen, battery, and WiFi music streaming.

Some may remember the Stanton SCS4 DJ, which was an early and brave attempt at this kind of device but that, despite showing promise, was ultimately both aheads of its time and underpowered; this certainly feels like that kind of product coming of age. I’m not sure what “looks fine” means. A usual IMD test through an analog piece of gear is going to send the raw test signal to the gear and then analyze the output from said gear in comparison. Pioneer CDJs from the mk3-on seem to produce the exact same amount of IMD present in the original test signal at zero pitch when using the SPDIF. The Prime standalone players’ digital audio processing adds 100X the intermodulation distortion of the original signal in RMAA. The comparison to the original signal measurement is what matters: how much more IMD is there compared to original. Engine DJ 3.1 also brings new Sampler updates! Sampler audio can now be routed to any available channel, or to the main output. Access this by double-pressing the Roll pad mode button. The possibilities are endless! available sample banks let you load your own or the pre-loaded samples to the performance pads and assign the output to any of the channels or the master output. Where the sampler is assigned to the master output, you can control the volume level on screen.

My hope is that by the time you reach the end of this guide, you’ll know for sure which is the right hardware for you based on your own wants and needs. The good news is: you can’t really go wrong. But I found a solution (saw it on YouTube, can’t remember who shared it but it’s genius, whoever you were!). I have taken to using a small, fold-up, portable laptop stand to angle the unit a few degrees towards me, which makes all the difference. Full 4-Channel Standalone – Unlike previous Pioneer offerings the OPUS-QUAD offers full 4-channel standalone capability. An excellent option for Pioneer fans that want access to all 4 channels without the need for a laptop. The one caveat here is that none of the Pioneer units we’ll talk about today support any kind of music streaming services, where the Engine-powered ones do. Something to remember if you plan to DJ using Beatport/Beatsource Link, SoundCloud Go+, TIDAL or Dropbox. Pioneer Standalone DJ Systems (Rekordbox)
