They're way too bright sounding for music in my opinion but you could always EQ them to your preference.
As you will see, I confirm the approximate accuracy of the measurements using Equalization and listening tests. Plugged them in an swapped output from monitors to headphones and had to double check several times that my monitors were actually muted.
At 64ohm impedance, the headphone is very easy to drive and functions very nicely off my iBasso DX50 even on low gain, but I suggest trying to acquire a better source with regard to bass output to do the K712 PRO justice on the low end. Some parts are thin enough that they could easily break when carrying it around in the provided pouch. I wouldn’t go ape sh** over it though, as the “Power-Hungry” claim parroted by everyone and their Grandma over the last 5-10 years is a bit overdone like.Ultimately headphone measurements are less exact than speakers mostly in bass and above a few kilohertz so keep that in mind as you read these tests. Both these amps have a flat frequency response with extremely low distortion levels(can never get rid of distortion 100%) that you can find online with measurements at AudioScienceReview. It’s one of those things that you likely won’t notice unless you’re a die-hard fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise (as I am), but it’s there nonetheless. The stuffy and stabbing electronica in the background of Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors throughout are enveloping and have clean and strong attack. Swapping them out shouldn’t be a problem as they’re easily obtainable and can be removed without tools. That means it was purposely boosted to account for exaggeration and was not intended to portray more bass light tracks properly. The K712 has a somewhat low impedance at 62 Ohm but is also incredibly inefficient at around 84-88dB; even lower than the K702 at 91dB/mW.
These headphones are for professional monitoring – they are made to be unforgiving and unflatteing for analytical purposes. The point is that I could only make out this almost minute revelation with a headphone like the K712.When I contacted AKG about them I was told "The AKG K712 PRO is a professional product while you have reached the consumer division with your request. In short, the K712 is not Sensitive at all (read: it’s incredibly inefficient) and does need a bit of power to get pumping. Obvious differences, one major one being that the 240 tends to kill the leading edges of cymbals, triangles, whilst leaving the rest of the instrument to "ring" and be heard. The AKG logo is stamped so it’s easy to spot, while the leather clad headband adds another layer of style and adds to the comfort levels. Anyway, it's been a few days with the 712's, and I had an 18 hour stretch with them until I just got bored with music overall and had to do something else.
