About this deal

Having a high refresh rate display is essential if you want to play fast-paced games like first person shooters competitively online. Samsung’s Odyssey G5 is an excellent choice if you’re looking to upgrade to an ultrawide monitor as part of a gaming setup. Determining what is most important when choosing a monitor depends on which color space (CMYK, sRGB, DCI-P3, or Adobe RGB) you usually use. We recommend choosing a monitor with a wide range of colors. The higher the percentage, the better the experience. The DCI-P3 color space is the most popular and has the widest range of colors. Typical gaming monitors have response times ranging from 1 to 6 milliseconds, which is considered fast enough for most gamers. However, based on our hands-on experience with various monitors, we prefer higher-end monitors with response times as low as 0.5 milliseconds. This lower response time provides even smoother and more responsive motion, ensuring an immersive gaming experience.

Further, the 3440×1440 screen resolution results in a perfect pixel density on the monitor’s 34″ sized screen. However, don’t let its material choice fool you since it feels quite durable and nothing like some budget models we’ve handled. There are no cosmetic defects on the device and its stand doesn’t wobble unwantedly while gaming. Color Gamut refers to the range of colors that a monitor can display. A wide color gamut means the monitor can display more colors, creating a more vibrant and lifelike image. Most ultrawide displays have a 34-inch screen size, but there are larger ones up to 49 inches, which are known as super ultrawide monitors. On top of that, these displaystend to have curved screens to bring the edges closer toyou. When looking for an ultrawide monitor, it's important to consider what you need it for and your budget, as there are options available at different price points.Moving on, the LG 34GP83A supports AMD FreeSync with a 48-160Hz VRR (variable refresh rate) range, and NVIDIA certifies it as G-SYNC Compatible.

It may sound small, but having a USB-C PD port puts Philips’ 343E2E in a class of its own if you use it with a laptop.

What Are The Best Ultrawide Monitors?

What helps this display stand out is its ports. In additional to the typical HDMI and DisplayPort, the Philips 343E2E has a USB-C PD port. If your laptop is connected to this port with a USB-C cable, the display will provide power up to 65W, which means your laptop will be charged while it’s connected to the monitor. This is extremely convenient, and means you won’t have to use two outlets to charge your computer and use this display. The LG 34GP83A has 178° wide viewing angles allowing you to watch the screen at basically any angle without the picture degrading in quality in any way (color, brightness, or contrast). If you compare its feature set to its price, Dell’s S3422DWG is the clear winner in the ultrawide monitor category. The Gigabyte M34WQ has an excellent response time at the max refresh rate, resulting in very little blur behind fast-moving objects. Like most monitors, you can adjust the level of pixel overdrive, but the 'Picture Quality' Overdrive setting delivers the best results overall. The 'Balance' setting is very similar, with a slightly faster rise/fall time but more noticeable overshoot. If you prefer a bit of inverse ghosting over a blur trail, it's a good alternative. The 'Speed' setting is slightly faster than 'Balance' but also introduces significant overshoot in most transitions, so it's not a good choice.
