About this deal

IMPORTANT: To prevent upgrade failures, please read the following before proceeding with the upgrade process The heat maps show that the Archer AXE75 was able to provide a relatively strong 2.4GHz signal throughout our test house, but the signal became weaker in parts of the garage. The router’s 5GHz band also weakened in the garage but showed slightly better range. Indeed, the networking vendor made all kinds of buzz about the new standard in early 2021 with nothing to show during the entire year. And then, it recommitted the Wi-Fi 6E promise in early 2022. Several new features are introduced in the Bluetooth Core Specification 5.0 and 5.3Release, including 2× faster speed and 4× broader coverage compared with Bluetooth 4. Another unique feature the Deco AXE5400 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6e System offers today is its automatic networking function that optimizes the networking every time a Deco unit disappears or is added to the network. We moved the Deco around our house to find the optimal location. We just powered down one Deco and moved it to the second floor in our house. Then we powered it up and the entire network adjusted to the optimal networking settings. If you do this in your home, remember to wait for the networking to complete and Deco’s LED to turn green. It will take a while for the light to turn green. It did for us during testing.

And in testing, the router's 5GHz and 6GHz bands individually had sustained speeds equivalent to a wired Gigabit connection after overhead at a close range of 10 feet (3m) or closer. The rate degraded slightly at 40 feet (12 meters) out (within a line of sight), as shown on the charts. The router has a USB 3.0 port on one side to host a storage device for its network storage features. Despite the support for Wi-Fi 6E, the Deco XE75 is very similar to previous deco sets, including the X60 and X5700. If you have used a Deco set before, you’ll feel right at home with this one. If you’ve used a mobile app before and can pay some attention, you’ll likely also find this a walk in the park. The TP-Link Deco XE75 has relatively poor network settings than a standalone router, including TP-Link’s Archer family. But it does have support for TP-Link and Philips Hue smart home devices. Theoretically, the AX73 can put all of its 5GHz bandwidth (4804Mbps) on a single connection, but there's no way to experience that until 4x4 clients are available, if ever. While I praised the wireless performance of the six adjustable antennas, their construction leaves some room for improvement. The rotating hinges leave visible gaps and expose fragile wires in each, prone to potential damage in some disastrous scenario or simple wear and tear if too frequently adjusted over the years. A Wi-Fi connection between two direct parties occurs in a single band, using one fixed channel, at any given time. This principle applies to all existing Wi-Fi standards, up to Wi-Fi 6E. HomeShield includes the Free Basic Plan. Fees apply for the Pro Plan. Visit tp-link.com/homeshield for more information.

In real-world additional anecdotal testing, the Deco XE75’s performance generally topped at around 300Mbps at the satellite unit and close to 900Mbps at the router unit. Of course, the actual numbers fluctuated a great deal. Use of Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Wi-Fi 6E, and features including OFDMA, 1024-QAM, and HE160 requires clients to also support the corresponding features. Not all seven 160MHz channels may be available in the 6 GHz band in some regions/countries due to regulatory restrictions. The double channel width refers to 160 MHz compared to 80 MHz for general WiFi 6 routers. When you open the 6GHz band to the client, it’ll be available as a separate network name (SSID) — you can’t name it the same as the other two bands. I currently live in a 2200ish sqft home that’s somewhat shaped like a +. My home office is in the right “wing” and is closest to the telephone pole that my 1gig fiber line comes off of, so it enters my home through my office and is where I have my AT&T router/modem hardware. My living room is in the top “wing”, kitchen with Nest smoke alarm in the left “wing”, and front door where a doorbell camera may go in the future in the bottom “wing”. As you could imagine, wireless strength in the left wing of my house is abysmal, and while AT&T’s two “range extenders” do alleviate wireless signal pain in left/top wings, they’re obviously not a bulletproof solution. This predicament is what got me starting to think about a mesh system. This new system will deliver for those wanting a reliable wireless mesh for their modest network. And if you have wired your home, you can expect consistent Gigabit-class sustained speeds. The XE75 shares the same features set as the previous Deco set. It comes with support for Dynamic DNS— in this case, it only supports TP-Link’s free domain –, IP reservation, and port-forwarding. There’s also a simple QoS engine where you can add individual devices to the priority list. Clients need to support 802.11k/v/r and may require additional setup. Performance may vary depending on the client device.

You must use the Deco mobile app for the setup process. And during this time, the phone (or tablet) must connect to the Internet via a cellular connection or an existing Wi-Fi. When you tap the Tools button, it takes you to a screen where you can configure Wi-Fi settings, analyze channel selection, create a guest network, and configure internet connection settings. Other settings allow you to create a OneMesh network, configure device notifications, share Wi-Fi credentials, and update firmware. But other than that, the setup process proved smooth in my trial. The app’s setup wizard covered all necessary steps in great detail, and I got the system up and running within less than 10 minutes without a hitch.
