When you apply the ointment to the skin, or use it instead of soap, these oils stay on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface. Hydromol Cream is used to treat any condition in which dry skin is a feature such as eczema, ichthyosis (hereditary dry skin) and senilepruritus (itching that may occur in old age). This avoids diluting the effect of the treatment and spreading it to areas of skin that do not need it.

By smoothing and softening the skin, moisturisers like Hydromol can improve the absorption of other medicines that are applied to the skin. If the skin condition is severe, talk to a GP, nurse or health visitor, as you may need a stronger treatment.This is useful in conditions like eczema, because it improves the ability of other medicines, such as corticosteroid creams, to penetrate the skin and reduce inflammation. Hydromol cream can be used in conjunction with other skincare products, but it's recommended to check with a dermatologist first, in case there may be any interactions with other products, especially with any topical medications.
