The Director’s Cut is housed on one disc, with the theatrical version found on the other. The former is one of the most famous Director’s Cuts out there, given the number of times the movie was submitted to the MPAA, which kept giving it the dreaded X rating until finally putting an R rating on it, a requirement of Verhoeven’s contract. The second platter also includes one of the notorious TV versions of the film too, albeit without much attention paid to image quality, which is to be expected. For this UHD edition, Arrow Video ports over the same outstanding collection of supplements as their 2019 Blu-ray release and spread across both UHD discs. In the near future, the city of Detroit is in financial ruin and the streets are overrun with violent crime. Criminals control neighborhoods, selling drugs, robbing stores, and violating innocent people walking home. And they do it without fear of the police since they're at the point of bankruptcy. In a desperate measure to save the city, the mayor signed a deal with major conglomerate Omni Consumer Products (OCP), allowing the corporation complete authority of the department. It's the first step in an effort by the company to transform a dystopia into an autonomous, utopic corporate city-state called "Delta City." But first, OCP must clean up the streets to attract other businesses and low-wage workers, which means designing some kind of super cop with the latest technological advancements. Paul Verhoeven’s classic dystopian action thriller, first released in 1987. gets a sparkling new reissue in glorious 4K.

And, when he hits the streets of London under a full moon, it’s carnage… Special Effects: Then and Now (SD, 18 min) — Exactly as the title implies, interviews discuss the production design and special optical effects of the period and how they were accomplished.Arrow Films have created what is undoubtedly the definitive 4K Robocop collection. The movie has never looked better, and likely never will look better than this. Grain is prevalent, and even more noticeable during the TV sequences, but isn’t distracting. The HDR makes Robocop’s armour pop with a violet hue that I’ve never seen before. The Improvements also include the Director’s cut footage, which on previous Blu-ray releases that I’ve owned had clearly not been remastered. Here it is, and while it isn’t a perfect match in quality, it Is closer here than it ever has been before. There is a wealth of archive and new special features, including a very charming interview with Nancy Allen. And the edited-for-television version, which I had actually avoided till now, is hilarious. Version. All additional materials were scanned in 4K at Company 3, Los Angeles and were graded & restored at R3Store Studios, London. Since these Connecting the Shots, a newly filmed interview with second unit director and frequent Verhoeven collaborator Mark GoldblattPaul Verhoeven was considered a cutting edge filmmaker when RoboCop was originally released. With a line up that includes Flesh + Blood, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, and Starship Troopers, it’s difficult to argue with that. A terrific visualist with a penchant for over-the-top violence, he also nailed the action and science fiction genres over the head, while at the same time putting his own personal stamp on his work. It’s also difficult to overlook the satire running throughout RoboCop, particularly with the local newscasts, the commercials in between, and the generic TV show containing the famous catchphrase "I’d buy that for a dollar!" Starring Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Daniel O’Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, and Miguel Ferrer. Edited-for-television version of the film, featuring alternate dubs, takes and edits of several scenes (95 mins, SD only) Robocop walks past a frosted window then shows a spike extending from his fist to a worried looking man.

Archive commentary by director Paul Verhoeven, executive producer Jon Davison and co-writer Ed Neumeier (originally recorded for Theatrical version of the film) RoboCop: Creating a Legend (SD, 21 min) — An amusing retrospective with fairly recent interviews on the production, Weller's performance, the making of the metallic suit and the challenges experienced by the filmmakers. the Cruikshank-Davison Collection at the Academy Film Archive in 2021 to restore the additional or alternate shots in the Unrated Director's Cut unlike anything anybody had ever seen before, and, really, unlike anything anybody would ever see again. Lastly, additional film elements of the TV Cut version supplied by MGM were scanned at EFILM and graded in 2K at R3Store Studios and are included
