We’re incredibly proud of the worldwide range of respected users who believe in and rely upon our furniture restoration services including Harrods, Rolls Royce, Four Seasons Hotels, the NHS, and the Royal Air Force. Starting with the obvious reason and that is to get your finish as smooth and professional looking and feeling as possible. I have also been told that soft sanding pads are good as well I presume these are the same as the Abranet pads? Personally I like to use 400 grit, but to be honest there’s really not much in it so in my opinion it's not worth worrying about, but I wouldn't go lower than 240 grit or higher than 600.

Wood is a naturally porous material, and when you put oils on wood, they soak in, giving excellent liquid repellency and protection while still maintaining a natural look and feel. Its really just a light going over the surface to remove any lose nibs or particles that managed to get in or under the first coat of oil. Denibbing is the removal of “nibs” and imperfections from your finish, and it should be performed between each coat of any finish applied. Thank you so does that mean with the product I am looking at using I would need to use a fine grade wool? These are a 30mm abrasive veclro backed sanding block, ideal for removing small imperfections from paintwork when you need to do a small localised repair, such as a localised deep scratch or flattening back paint after a stone chip repair. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I don't know why I am answering a thread on Finishing, my Finishing usually leaves a lot to be desired! The pads work excellently when sanding wood, plastic, metal components as well as painted surfaces where their woven structure resists clogging.

I saw that denibbing is recommended with fiddes hardwax oil, how do you do this for a large area such as a floor?

Basic purpose is to remove/flatten any minute specs of dust, etc, that were airborne and have settled while the finish was drying, and/or any specs of rubbish that were in the liquid finish as you applied it (though you do strain your material through a coffee filter and old pair of ladies tights before EVERY use, don't you? Apply the first coat of finish, and wait for it to fully dry based on the manufacturers instructions.
