About this deal

The bottle is lovely and I'm still wondering if there's anyone out there who can actually pull this off. When I refreshed the spray on my arm and asked my daughter what she thought (she is 13 and also loves perfumes) her first words were “it smells like fall” then she said “it smells like Hobby Lobby” 😂 I also detect a little of the waxy scent that some say they can smell and compare it to a candle. Spicy notes are already tricky on my skin, and my own chemistry rendered them dirty, pungent and wild. I also still feel like the scent is more exotic rather than Christmassy, but the gingerbread is there. This is a fragrance has presence and commands respect- in the way being around an elephant does, I imagine.

Not my favourite scent in the world, but the performance is so outstanding I love it for what it is.I am going to wear it in public for the first time today, we shall see how it goes and if my opinion changes, as I’ve only tried it on the back of my hand so far. I can spray this in the morning, and come evening, it’s still there, softer and closer to be sure, but still commanding a presence.

You can smell the warmth of the spices all the way through but well blended with the sweetness creaminess. I would say it is truly polarising and will be a proper love / hate fragrance, it is utterly enormous and you just can't hide from it anywhere! Though to me, there’s a different story to tell, I still remember when I smelled this gem the very first time. Two sprays from a travel flacon and my first thought was the scene in the film Jumanji with the herd of stampeding elephants and rhinos that trample everything in their path. It’s like the hug of an Indian aunt who spends most of the day cooking all kinds of wonderful Indian dishes. I‘m not hating it, on some days I even really like it but its just not for every occasion, or weather, or even outfit. This is truly a unique fragrance, honestly had I smelled it beforehand I probably wouldn't have purchased it, but it's slowly growing on me.

There is an amber effect to the late stages of the drydown, which, together with the spices, is a nod to classics like Opium or Coco.

The detonation of 4C (cloves, caraway, cumin, and cardamom) is arresting, like the first lines of a novel that have you transfixed and reading pages upon pages into the night.
