About this deal

I have the same exact orange 90’s railings and hate them!!! Been thinking of seeing if I can redo them myself and I stumbled across your very easy (or so it seems) instructions! I’m gonna go for it!! What color white did u use for the white spindals? Think about how you want your banisters to look – do you want them to stand out? Maybe you want them a neutral colour that blends in with your existing decor. Either way, aesthetics matter! Ease of Application It’s a question that is subjective and will vary depending on who you ask. For example, some painters will choose a durable gloss whereas others might prefer something like satinwood which is less durable but more pleasing on the eye. Fortunately, the Diamond Satinwood (despite being a trade paint) comes in a relatively small size (1 litre) so will easily cover your banister with a couple of coats and you’ll likely have plenty leftover for touch ups on other woodwork within your home. This house conversion beautifully mixes materials to fuse the old with the new. The bespoke Bisca design fuses natural materials to celebrate the heritage of the building while taking into consideration modern design.

Beautiful! Question? How did you do the hand railing closest to the wall? Did you take it off the wall or manage to paint behind it? The picture below shows the type of paint I used. We have used the enamel throughout the house on cabinets, trims, furniture, etc. It’s just a great paint. I went with semi-gloss which to me gives just the right amount of shine. After sanding and prepping, I applied the primer. With the primer and the paint, I used mostly a sponge roller and brush. To achieve the aforementioned quality finish, you’re going to want to buy something that is easy to apply – whether you’re a professional or an amateur. There’s no point buying a paint that’s ultimately going to leave runs and brush marks on the final coat. Finally, it simply looks very nice. It’s still generally accepted among decorators that despite water-based paints matching the performance of oil-based paints, oil-based paints still provide a nicer finish.

I’m going to try hard to keep this G rated. The concept is simple, start with the underside of each banister then move to the sides and finish with the top of the banister. The primer is not intended to cover evenly, so don’ t be discouraged when some sections of the wood absorb the primer more or less than other sections. When you apply the primer and paint start with the underside first. excess product will accumulate on the sides giving you a chance to smooth it out when moving to the sizes and top of the banister. Here’s a tip: when painting, start at the bottom so you can grab onto the railings until you’re ready to paint them last. There’s been a number of times where I’ve gone to a job where I’m penned in to paint interior woodwork and a common issue I see is paint drips that have dried on banisters (especially if my client isn’t a painter and has painted them theirselves). Crown’s non-drip satin has the perfect combination of consistency and drying time so even for amateur painters, this isn’t really an issue you’ll face.
