About this deal

You’re not going to get a performance comparable with a dedicated wireless speaker like the Award-winning Audio Pro Addon C3– don’t underestimate how much of the cost is going on the Revival iStream 3’s built-in services and connectivity – but you’d be hard-pushed to find a more enjoyable listen from a radio at this price. The Roberts Revival RD70 can fill a 4x3m bedroom with sound easily enough. However, don’t expect the sort of sound-quality-to-size ratio you get with a Sonos One. This radio uses a very traditional single mid-size driver for its sound. The Roberts iStream 3 has the same core styling as the vanilla Roberts Revival, but this radio is smaller than some. A few of Roberts’ traditional models can dominate a bedside table to an extent that you might not expect from pics posted online. This one won’t.

I’ve had a chance to directly compare the Roberts Revival RD70 with some of its key rivals, the Pure Evoke D4 and the Goodmans Heritage Portable. In its role as the sort of radio you might put in a bedroom or kitchen, the Roberts is the best of the three. Crafted with an acoustically tuned wooden casing, this radio delivers rich, warm sound that fills any room. Whether you're tuning in to the morning news or hosting a party, the iStream 3L ensures top-notch audio quality. Sound quality hasn’t kept up quite as well, and the Roberts iStream 3 wouldn’t be a match for a similarly priced wireless speaker such as the Sonos One. But the expectations for radio sound quality just aren’t in the same league, and this set is still both an enjoyable listen and a charming addition to a room. It’s also one of the best-sounding DAB radios you can buy. This is miles away from the “small radio” sound that’s tinny, better suited to BBC Radio 4 than a music station. The Revival RD70 is like the Roberts iStream 2, but is has Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi streaming. Oddly enough, the older iStream 2 is technically more advanced. It has Spotify Connect, multi-room features and internet radio. A Smartphone or tablet which uses the Android operating system (version 4.0.3 or later) or Apple iOS (version 9 or later). For that reason, we’d be more than happy taking one home. Six decades on, Roberts’s Revival radio line is still going strong. The front of the iStream is made up of a traditional metallic grille, while all of the action regarding knobs and buttons happens at the top of the set. Underneath the useful carry handle, you’ll find a full-colour screen that simplifies the set-up process.

Frankly, I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to get their hands on this incredible piece of audio tech. If you’re looking for an amazing performance and a stunning design at a price that’s not going to break the bank, there’s nothing quite like the Revival iStream 3. Frequency coverage FM 87.5 - 108MHz, DAB 174.928 - 239.200MHz Bluetooth 4.1 frequencies 2.402 - 2.480GHz Product markings

To connect a different device apply a long press on the Mode / Bluetooth Pair button. Your radio will become discoverable by other devices. ** The other key question is how you control the device. Does it use buttons, a dial or a touchscreen to switch stations or adjust the volume? How easy is it to browse through the available streams and find new music? How many preset favourites can you store, and how are they accessed? What other features should I look out for?

The compromise you make is on sound. This is a fairly compact plastic radio with 3W stereo speakers and Pure has tuned it to give you a warmer, richer sound, but at the expense of clarity. Give it some time and play with the solid EQ settings, though, and you can get a decent output, at least at medium volume. What’s more, the Connect+ will run for around seven hours on a set of rechargeable AA batteries, so you can take the fun with you around the home and garden – with DAB+ for when you can’t connect to Wi-Fi. Portable models also tend to be more compact and able to run off batteries, while larger units have the potential for a bigger, warmer sound. Whether you want something you can carry around the house or a static unit to slot into an existing hi-fi system, there’s an internet radio to suit. If you would like to setup your radio using the radio's controls follow the setup prosedure below and choose the desired language.Stream your music collection from your PC / Mac / NAS using DLNA or USB memory device. If your computer or tablet is running Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10, then Windows media player includes a UPnP server which will make your files available to your radio. Replace batteries only with the same or equivalent type. Danger of explosion if the batteries are incorrectly replaced. Push Button' - the display prompts you to press the WPS button on your router and then the Tuning control on the radio. The two devices should then connect automatically. Proceed to step 9. Press the Menu button and choose ' Main menu'. The main menu items include the main operating modes and in addition the Sleep, Alarms and System settings. ** System settings Slide the switch inside the battery compartment to the Alkaline position (as shown) and insert six LR6 (AA size) alkaline batteries. Take care to ensure all batteries are inserted with the correct polarity as shown on the battery compartment cover. Then replace the battery cover. Important: when using alkaline batteries the battery switch must be placed in the alkaline position. Failure to do so could result in serious damage to the batteries or radio.

A router (or wireless access point) providing a WiFi signal, connected to your broadband internet service provider. The Roberts iStream 3 has a very conventional speaker array. It uses a woofer and a tweeter, and no passive radiators. The only major downside I noticed with the Revival iStream 3 design is that there’s no rechargeable battery option. You need to use 6 AA batteries every time you want to take your radio with you on the go, which isn’t exactly cost-effective. Roberts Revival iStream 3 review: Features The Roberts RD70 does not have these, but Bluetooth often seems simpler. It relays all audio from your phone. You don’t have to rely on an app supporting the radio. Equipped with a clear and vibrant colour display, the iStream 3 offers easy navigation and control of its features. It has a built-in alarm and sleep timer, allowing users to wake up to their favorite radio station or fall asleep to soothing sounds.Use restriction: This device is authorised in the following countries for indoor use only when used with 5GHz Wi-Fi (5150 to 5350MHz; channels 36 to 64): Your radio may be configured using either the display and buttons on the radio or using the UNDOK app. First-time users are recommended to use the radio's controls. What’s more, they can stream stations from all around the world – so you can still listen to BBC Radio, Kiss, Classic FM and the rest, or try out world music from Brazil and Mali, classical broadcasts from Berlin and Vienna, talk radio from New York and country music straight from Nashville. Even if you decide to crank up the volume to fill the entire room with sound for your next get-together or game night, you’re not going to notice any drop in sound quality. I found this radio to be particularly good in an open-plan kitchen when you want to listen to the radio as you cook. Roberts Revival iStream 3 review: Verdict
