About this deal

Jedynym, ale znaczącym minusem produkcji (nie treści) jest dla mnie to, że przy superprodukcjach narracja pierwszoosobowa średnio sprawdza się, bo wprowadza spory zamęt. It is one of those thriller/mysteries where there’s one mishap or problem after another that requires creative, quick thinking and plenty of physical and mental resolve.

In 2006 the National Reconnaissance Office declassified information stating that "an individual formerly possessing CORONA access was the technical adviser to the movie" and admitted "the resemblance of the loss of the DISCOVERER II capsule, and its probable recovery by the Soviets" on Spitsbergen Island, to the book by Alistair MacLean. MacLean delivers a very readable Cold War-era action thriller with locked-room mystery elements but you'll need to set your Suspension of Disbelief to maximum levels.A British Meteorological drift station set up in the Arctic- Ice Station Zebra, has gone completely off the grids. Other key roles were played by Jim Brown and Tony Bill, who signed a five-picture contract with Ransohoff,. To me, this is the beauty of a successful plotline, when the author can leave a clue in plain sight and have readers overlook it. Drift ice Station Zebra, a British meteorological station built on an ice floe in the Arctic Sea, suffers a catastrophic oil fire; several of its men die, and their shelter and supplies are destroyed.

A little personal reconnaissance before the appointed hour was acceptable, but woe betide the Kinch minor that tried to snaffle one before his time. The Arctic almost comes alive and becomes a character in the book, being a more memorable antagonist than the Soviet spies. The nearly fatal flooding of the forward torpedo room, before the intermission, is the only time in the film where the submarine is shown to be in jeopardy, unlike the novel where a fire in the engine room nearly kills the entire crew. Dustjacket generally good, small losses to top left and top right of rear of dj, tiny losses to bottom left spine and bottom right front of dj, some creasing. On arrival, they find the base almost burned to the ground and the scientists nearly dead from hypothermia.War Is Hell, but It Pays Off for MacLean: War Pays Off for MacLean War Pays Off for MacLean War is Hell, but It Pays Off for Alistair".
