About this deal

But now Grandma Farida, “time-travelling” in her mind as her memory weakens, insists she’s seen her lost son in the supermarket. Forced to take up a museum internship to pay for car repairs, 16-year-old Ojibwe citizen Perry Firekeeper-Birch finds herself unexpectedly enthralled by what she learns on the job.

Jamie Smart | LoveReading4Kids Books By Jamie Smart | LoveReading4Kids

Expensive but entirely worth it, this spectacular retelling of the Persian invasion of Greece from the perspective of Golgo, a Spartan queen, marries a numinous sense of classical legend with satisfyingly grim accounts of Spartan training, warfare and sacrifice. Engaging characters and storylines combined with themes that address emotional literacy, such as coping with anger. The titles are centred around Max, who moves to an island full of animals, where he meets a special creature named Chaffy, who is lost. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). His comic Fish-Head Steve was the first work of its sort to be shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.

Ning hears fearsome tales of the night spirits – but what Ning fears most is talking to other people.

Max and Chaffy | Find Chaffy Max and Chaffy | Find Chaffy

At the end of every chapter, you need to find Chaffy who will be hidden in a fun picture and it gets harder and harder as you move onto every chapter. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. Each chapter features a new location and another interactive page and finding Chaffy equals finding the object.

The strengths of this book are the sense of humour which has plenty of appeal for this age group, a low panel count per page, and easy-to-read speech bubbles which make it age-appropriate.

A heart-warming, interactive adventure story, set on a cute, fun island that’s hugely appealing to young readers.Comic artist and author of the hugely popular Bunny vs Monkey and Looshkin comic strips in The Phoenix comic that have also been turned into bestselling graphic novels, Jamie Smart has always been passionate about the positive impact that comics have on growing readers. I loved this book because you had to find Chaffy and if you don’t know who Chaffy is, he is a little snowball with ears and he’s very funny. Not only did Crumble let Max and Chaffy into the secret, but all the noise attracted Chief Constable Moose, who was accused of ruining the surprise and sent away. He is only 5 and the book might be too big for him but he enjoys together with me looking at the pages. Two contrasting styles are used for the everyday story and the game narrative, which has a retro feel.
